I run the risk of sounding like a real dope if this is untrue, but hasn't anyone started a thread for the masters!?!? I logged on expecting to find a masters thread with about a million replies, and i can't find a one!
Congrats to Trevore is about all I can say. This is the first Masters in 7 years that I quit watching during the final round before it was even half over. I really hate what they have done to the course. Even though the weather was a factor it just isn't exciting anymore. Players are more worried about maintaining than advancing because Augsuta just dosen't like to give up Birdies anymore, Augusta always gave you a chance to score based on creative shot placement, now it just gives you a chance to not slip a stroke or two with safe shot placement. It is like I watched Augusta and a US Open Broke out kind of deal. I have never been a big fan of the US Open because it is such a grind and not always entertaining to watch. I guess I will have to wait for the British open to see some excitement and Drama.
I was glued to all the information I could find to see if Immelman or Snedeker could hold on for the win. I was fishing and had friends text info to me constantly. I finally saw the end of the tournament at a restaurant. This was a very exciting tournament for me.
I'm just thrilled that 'the same old person' didn't win. To me there is nothing more boring than having the same person win everything..........why watch.
Basically there were two roars all day - at least in the traditional Augusta meaning. Brandt's eagle putt on No 2, and Tiger's long bomb on No 11. By the time Trevor got through the amen corner, it was a six shot cushion.
Pretty much a snoozer when the most memorable moments for the champion are par putts (Trevor @ No 9 and No 11).
Not the players fault, and in reality, it wasn't about the wind. Was pretty gusty back in 1986 when Jack shot 7 under over the last 10 holes.
The culprit is Hootie Johnson and Tom Fazio. It's criminal what they have done to No 7 and No 11. No 1 used to be a nice opening hole, now it's a brute. I wish they would do away with the second cut and thin out the trees. Players used to have plenty of options on which angle to play, now it's just hit it straight down the middle or pay the price. The additional trees at No 11 and betwen 15/17 did not make the holes stronger, they merely turned a great course into another par grinder (which we already see at every other major unless they are playing the Old Course at St Andrews).
Trevor is a deserving champion, he played very well for three days, and he sealed the deal under very tough conditions. But it's not the Masters anymore; it's just not as exciting as it once was.
