I never paid a lot of attention to it but the question has been posed lately whether or not Boo's "good ol' boy" demeanor is genuine or embellished. One golf writer on "The Grey Goose 19th Hole" seemed adamant that it is a schtick- siting boo''s comments that he'd never heard of amen corner, didn't know you didn't have to pick up in match play, and saying he had never heard of Jim Nance. He said Boo's father had spoken to the media and and said his son had read all of Hogan's books.
So what do you all think? Is Boo yanking our chains?
He can't possible be that stupid so I'd have to say yes, he is yanking our chain....to a certain degree. I believe that he is a good 'ole boy, but he knows more than he lets on.
I read somewhere that he has trouble with reading, so he probably doesn't read much. He also claims to not watch much TV, and he prefers hunting and fishing to playing golf. Because of this, I think it is at least possible that he doesn't know some 'important' facts and history of golf. I also think that he has probably learned to fine tune his humor and gives us what we want to hear to some extent. I would not call him fake though.

There's no golfer in the world who doesn't know what Amen Corner is, so yeah, he's milking it. But on the other hand, the dude cannot add 9 small numbers - just ask Sergio - so maybe he really is that dumb.
Either way, seems like a good guy who is having fun out there. Can definitely golf his ball, and all this wouldn't sell if he wasn't a winner.
I played with Boo a few times when he was growing up. What you see is what you get. He is disarmingly honest and a genuine nice guy. He'll pick up the knowledge he needs to continue to be successful.
I followed Boo and Brandt during their early morning round at the Wachovia on Sunday. I can honestly say, he is faking all of it. I have never heard so much laughter at a golf tournyment, he is a showman/comedian and like to get the crowd laughing. You could almost tell him and his caddy had worked on certain gags in some situations it was that well oiled. I can't wait to follow him again. He even gave Brandt's caddy ad shoulder rub while waiting at the 7th tee box.
Let me first say I'm a Boo fan. However, I followed him a couple holes on Saturday and was very disappointed in his etiquette. He mis hit his approach, stormed off from his caddy and shoved his club about 6 inches into the middle of the fairway. Not the "gentleman's game" I'm trying to teach my son.
