For once I would like a player to be honest when asked this question ( Actually Lee Trevino did once).

Player A has a one shot lead and has finished his round and is waiting in scoring tenrt. He is now waiting for the final group to putt. In the final group player B has a chance to tie player A with a 5 foot putt. Interviewer asks player A what his thoughts are and does he hope that player B misses the putt.

Player A says "You never want to wish bad on another player" but in his mind he is saying "I hope he 5 putts".

The only time I recall this being answered honestly was a senior tournament when Lee Treviono was in this situation and his old nemisis the great Jack Nicklaus had a 5 or 6 footer to tie. When asked the dreaded question Lee said "Of course I hope he misses it".

I don't know who said this, but I think it pretty well coveres the game in general.

"It's not that I wish others play worse than me... just that I play better than them."

Well, I think majority would wish that the challenger misses the putt. But I can also imagine some people relishing the challenge. Like Tiger Woods for example. I can imagine him welcoming the challenge.

This pretty much sums up everything with how I feel about it..

Hey, I wanna win as much as the next guy so of course I want him to miss the putt. There's a decent amount of luck involved in some putts. For example, Ryan Moore last week made 88% of his putts from 10 feet and in. That's a good stat. But Adam Scotts putt to win in the playoff, involved some luck. From that distance(and the line of the putt) the odds were very much against him, but he made it....with a little luck. He caught a good break there. Yes, I'd to make a putt to win, but I'll take someone elses missed putt to win just as well....and I think most pros and amateurs would too.
