Time for everyone to make their Players Championship predictions!
I am going with 2 hot playing non winners.
Steward Cink. I think he can put it together for a great run.
Jim Furyk, I think this is his day, more than anyone. He is an elite golfer, who hasn't won. It's just a matter a time for him, so I think this is his time!
adam scott or phil. adam is play great so far, winning the EDS and finishing in the top 10 at wachovia. phil loves this course and i mean come on, its phil how can you not favor phil
While not necessarily the most important stat, the Players Championship will once again have the largest purse in golf - $9.5 million overall, with $1.71 million to the winner. For the first time in PGA Tour history, a solo 2nd place finish will be worth over $1 million - $1,026,000 to be exact. 3rd place is $646,000, larger than the 1st prize at all official money events of $3.50-million and under, larger than the 2nd place prizes in many events.
The priceless rewards of a Players Championship win are as follows ....
• 5-yr exemption for the PGA Tour as well as the event itself
• 3-yr exemption for the Masters (2009-10-11) and British Open (2008-09-10).
• 1-yr exemption, in 2008, (WHAT!?!) for the US Open and PGA Championship.
... plus the satisfaction of having beaten one of the best fields in golf, even if Mr. Woods is not teeing it up!
Winner: Stewart Cink - I got to watch him a couple of holes at the Wachovia on Sunday and he pulled a real rabbit out of his hat on #8. He is hot and due.
Contender: Anthony Kim - I followed him on Sunday and the kid is awesome.
Dark Horse: Stuart Appleby - He has the game, I just don't know where he hid it.
watching the tournament today, and the famous island green at the 17th, and the players hitting it into the water, it got me thinking. When a player hits the ball through the green and it lands in the water on the other side, where exactly does the drop occur? The ball last crossed the margin of the hazard on the other side of the hole. So does the player walk around the green, and drop it on the back side?
