Re: Two things about the US Open
I was a hole marshal captain on holes 1 and 18. What an incredibly great time. Thing that constantly amazed me was how solid and long the players hit the ball. Routinely on number one a player would blow it over the traps on the right. That's well over 300 yards on the fly. Saw VJ four putt from six feet. Played a men's club event yesterday and enjoyed the "hard/fast/dry" nature of the course which yielded an extra 15 to 20 yards on tee shots. Greens were rolling 12 on stimp. Shot a smooth 37 on the front hitting 8 greens but then came back to reality with a 44 on the back. Traps were "fluffy" and I could not figure them out with poor results. Hit a perfect six iron into the pond in front of 18 when trying to lay up--never did that before!! Usually a six iron would be twenty yards short of the pond. Sure was fun to play a US Open course right after the Open!! No bad lies, period, except in the heavy rough. First and second cut rough was no problem at all.
