First, a big congrats to Kenny for his win at the Memorial.....I'm wondering if anyone has reaction to his tailoring his schedule so he can make the Ryder Cup team?
Sort of like pointing your schedule to win majors. After you have enough bucks, your priorities go to other things. Ryder cup is big for him as a Kentuckian so only natural that he would concentrate on the events/courses where he thinks he can do best to earn himself a slot. Seems to be working.
It's smart play.. I race motorcycles and do the same thing - go to tracks i know i am strong at to get a good points to head into the championship.. Hes a good soild player - good to see him win.
I think he got shafted that he was not exmpt to play in the US Open. But their cutoff date to pre-qualification exemptions was the week before the Memorial Tournament. Meaning the guy Kenny bumped off the top 30 list still gets to play even though he is not ranked exmpted at this time.
He siad if he was exmpt he would play.
I watched him come close several times and he seemed to lack focus down the stretch. It was good to see him win. If he keeps that edge, he'll win a lot more in the coming years.
It`s a shame that Kenny Perry has now decided to miss The Open Championship too. For a player of his calibre, playing so well to then skip two majors in a year is almost painful to hear! !!
Regardless of his Ryder Cup masterplan, it`s still a shame he`s chosen to not play in two of this year`s majors!

He is missing it because he already agreed to play at the off tournament. I think that speaks volumes for the man. Early in the year he didn't think he would be eligible for The Open and made other plans. Now he is eligible and instead of telling the other tournament to stick it, he is living up to his commitments.
Very noble, kind of foolish I am sure the other tournament people would understand, but noble noe the less.
like the second biggest tournament of the year behind the masters.
you have to play it.
The US open is bigger than the masters in my opinion.
Regardless I live in Bowling Green,Kentucky and his hometown that his own course is in is all but 25 minutes away from me. I've had the pleasure to play a few holes with the guy, and he is a really nice guy and its nice to see him come out of the little slump that he was in. Hes playing really great golf right now and I really hope he gets to play in his homestate on the Ryder cup team.
Perry is really letting his fans down by not entering the Major championships (ie US & British) . To be in such wonderful current form and not top play is puzzling. At this rate Kenny will not be remembered as a Ryder Cup player but as a player who forfeited a chance to play, and possibly win, two of the greatest tournaments. Absolutely one crazy decision !! Players are remembered for Major victories and not for being in a team event.

"Perry won't be at the British Open because he already committed to playing in Milwaukee the same week, following his decision to not attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open the day after winning the Memorial."
"I committed to all these tournaments before when I was ranked 100th in the world," he explained. "Now all of a sudden I've won twice, I'm probably top 20 in the world now."
"I've already committed to Milwaukee and I'm not going to back out."
Heaven forbid someone stick to their commitment, sometimes it's not all about the individual...I'm hoping that he'll be remembered for keeping his word to the folks in Miwaukee.
