I was reading a golf mag this month (don't ask me which) and this guy, 5 time Open Championship winner said that Snead would take Tiger head to head matching both at their prime...I don't know how you could prove this argument, but it does say something about someone who has actually seen both players perform, and who knows a thing or two about golf themselves, would not only not push Tiger to the top of the best of all time heap, but picks Snead over him...
Makes me wish that I could have seen Snead play...must have been something...
I'd say Tiger will stand a good chance of winning 50% of the majors he competes in during his 30s. He certainly has the short game for it. That seems to be where majors are decided. And within the short game, he reads the greens (break and speed) better than anyone else. Is there a GR contrest in his pursuit of majors?
The best player ever was the great Moe Norman of Canada. (RIP Moe.)
Who was Moe Norman?
anyhow, hasn't tiger finished second in the last few majors he's played and hasn't won? and in how many has he finished in the top ten? i think the real lucky ones are the golfers who have won a major in which tiger was playing in.
Tiger is a brilliant player & he does intimidate his fellow players with the way & confidence he carries himself. The determination he has.
The reason he doesn't win everything is because he is human & therefore falable. You only have to look at all the tee shots with driver he's sent right into teddy bear picnic land & those hooked left into a watery grave (Thinking Ryder cup K Club here)..
Where he does excell is when he gets into a bad possition like that he delves deep & pulls out brilliant shots, its not luck, its sheer determined tallent.
When the pressure is on he pulls on his reserves.
IMHO, its in the long term this determination, that's helped him win as much as he has that is proving to be his undoing, especially as regards that knee of his & the stress fractures he needs to let heal up. And its that good attitude & determination to play through pain that will mean injury could well dog him again in the future.
If his fellow players were maybe a little less fearful of him then Tiger might actually win less than he does, as they are phased before they even tee off.
Hope this doesn't sound too harsh on his fellows as its not really meant to be, as there is enough tallent out there, especially some of the newer players...

I think your analysis is spot on. His psychological intimidation of the field is incredible. Besides his great game he has the media and TigerMania to help create the atmosphere of shock and awe. Very few have the will to play their best when Tiger is around the leaderboard.
