Basic Q-school question

Hi all,

First post here on Golf Rewind, though I've been lurking around a little while. The post about Wie heading to Q-school got me wondering about what it takes financially to get into Q-school, and I searched google and found some numbers:

Pre-qualifying - $2,500
1st Qualifier - $4,500
2nd Quailfier - $4,000
Final - $3,500

So if I am reading that right, it would cost someone starting in the Pre-Q stage about $14,500 to work through all the stages. Is that really what it costs? It seems like the sites of the qualifiers are not geographically the same, so it looks there is significant travel involved too. I am assuming that the entry fees do not include lodging or travel expenses, so that would all a few thousand to the tally, right? Am I misinterpreting this or is someone who is really giving this a shot looking to put out close to $20,000 just to make it through all the qualifiers (assuming that they actually finish high enough)? That is WAY more than I expected, and I can't help but think I am misinterpreting something...

it's 4500 if you have to go to first stage the farther exempt you are the less. you dont pay for each stage.

Re: Basic Q-school question

they keep raising it to keep yahoo's out of it.. basically if you are good enough to make it -your club or sponsors are going to pay and if you finish and have your card you will have enough money to pay back with zero issues..

Re: Basic Q-school question

That makes more sense, only paying for the first qualifier and then being able to progress. Who pays travel / lodging expenses for players who qualify for subsequent rounds? Is that up to the individual, or does the PGA pick it up?

Re: Basic Q-school question

The player or sponsor pays all the incidental costs. The Hooters Tour has been picking up the Q School fees for their top three money winners for a few years now. And there are a bunch of partial exemptions where players with some experience and proficiency are placed in advanced levels, but I haven't been able to find an exact listing of these.

Re: Basic Q-school question

Greetings ....

Here's a PDF file link to the 2008 Q-School Application

The application lists the various stages of qualifying, including who is exempt for each level.

Thanks for the research Frank-O-Sport. I couldn't locate the info and the link covered it perfectly.
