Crowd Behaviour - Presidents Cup

Hearty congratulations to the USA team in winning this years event.

Hearty criticism to the many fans that abused the International players and made the event less than a comfortable experience for them. It has been reported that over fifty (50) spectators were evicted during the event. This is inexcusable and hopefully the Administrators will act accordingly.

Yes it is true, I'm an American and embarassed at the way fools act at these tourneys.
Half of them get so drunk and the other half are a bunch of fools. The Ryder cup a few years ago was another embarassment. Please do not think we are all like the bafoons you see on tv. When the Americans imigrated to their new country they left dignity behind.

Michael, fully understand your reply and respect your view. You always have a minority that spoil any party and this is just another example. As stated, I just hope in future the authorities can learn from this experience and attempt to educate the fools that frequent these events. Regular expulsion may be the first stage but I believe signage and notices in the programme may be another mode of education.

I wouldn't apologize for being an American. Every part of the world has their idiots. You couldn't get me to an English soccer game for any amount of money and Russian chess fans are brutal.

There's a few in every crowd all over the world.

We are talking Golf spectators here, not aggressive football supporters or who ever else. No where else in the world do crowds behave like Americans at a golf tournaments. When people sing out 'get in the hole' when a player tees off on a par 5 you know you are dealing with the uneducated. Unruley scenes do nothing for a players concentration.

The game is hard enough in dead quiet !

Again I stress these people are of the vast minority and need to be policed.

How many streakers have you ever seen in American golf? Is that somehow more acceptable? Stupidity knows no boundaries. I won't pretend I have any appreciation for the idiots who yell you da man! or Get in the Hole!! But lets let Obama apologize for America, it's apparently what he does best.

Nor do I...unless it's argument for argument's sake.

Nice segue, er, threadjack.

How about let's stay on topic and leave political rhetoric to another forum...or another board, for that matter?

Hmmm...threadjacking...that seems awfully familiar for some reason...

Anyway, I agree that some of the fans have acted very rude and disrespectful to the international players. I haven't ever seen the International fans that disrespectful when the Cup was held in other places in the world. I mean, Geoff Ogilvy got heckled on Thursday's matches, whn a fan yelled "NOONAN!" just as he was about to putt, and he missed that putt. Looks like both the Ryder Cup fans and the American Presidents Cup fans should learn something from the International fans.

Re: Crowd Behaviour - Presidents Cup

I remember my first experience watching a broadcast from The Open Championship some years ago. The galleries were respectful and knowledgeable. A good player would receive applause only a half dozen or so times each round. That was when he hit a particularly good shot, not after every 10 inch tap in.

Great observation Billyg.... It's all about respect for the player.

The Streaker

Streaker at the Ryder Cup in 2006

Not at all a thread jack, not even close.

I agree that fans must be respectful but it seems some of you guys don't know your recent golf history.

Every Ryder Cup has had it's moments and it doesn't matter where in the world it is.

The Obama reference is simply to point out that it has become en vogue to apologize for America.

Well I am not apologizing, but I would prefer to see more decorum at any golf event. On that, I think we all agree.

Re: Crowd Behaviour - Presidents Cup

Streaker at the Ryder Cup.... It could only happen in Ireland !. I really can't compare that 'one off' act with the continuous banter of the American spectators. Apology, not required. Just get someone to work out how to curb future actions and then everyone will all be happy.
