Surprised not more talk here

about Jake's (to use Tonyg's phrase) win at the Senior US Open. Nothing against Kite and Irwin, but this win couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I remember years ago seeing him play at the Western - he couldn't have been nicer and more entertaining for the fans. He's one those guys who always seems to hit the right chord with people while he's in public. I even gave him the yardage on a par 3 in a practice round (I worked one summer at the course where the event was held and knew that hole well) - he turned and thanked me, then corrected me on why my yardage was wrong. He actually took a minute to explain to me how caddies give the yardage to their player to the front of the green, then add the distance that the hole is from the front. I never knew that! I had given him the yardage to the middle of the green. After his quick explaination he stepped away, did a quick 'Carl' impersonation and hit the shot. Hey middle of the green is always good enough for me Jake!

Senioritis

Good Point greenguy. I don't think there's that many real "Seniors" in here. The Senior...er...Champions Tour is in trouble and fading fast. I have always been a huge fan but the last couple of years of following that tour has produced very little watchable golf for me. Sure, they're all great players, but the big guns are gone and the few "names" that still play don't contend that often. Back-to-back Majors (5 Majors this year) doesn't help either. I'm not sure what the Champions Tour can do but they're losing me, and I'm not alone.

I'm happy for Jacobson and it's good to see him playing well again after his surgery. I watch his show "UnPlugged" on the Golf Channel and I've always enjoyed his story telling. Nice guys can finish first!

I was VERY happy to see Jake win, though when it came down to the last couple holes, Jake, Kite or Irwin all would have been just fine with me. Always have seemed like very classy guys around the course.

Of course, now I have to find that Jacobsen autograph from the 19-whatever Buick Open somewhere... Hmmm...

I'm a "real" senior, but The Senior Tour name change and the misguided switch to CNBC a couple of years ago and their "late" coverage killed the tour for me. They lost me, and I don't think that they can do anything at this point to bring me back. The guys who were my childhood idols are not competing regularly any more, and many of the younger seniors that I admire are either not winning or have reached the age where they're not competitive any more and get little screen time.

In an effort to maintain contact with my spouse, I usually watch only one tournament on the weekend, and the seniors can't compete with the regular PGA and LPGA tours. In fact, I'd rather watch the European or Nationwide tours than the seniors.
