He was at the Ala Wai Driving Range today hittin' balls and talking golf. I've been to tourneys before and have watched tons of golf on tv, but never near a pro at a range who's teeing it up and talking about golf related issues. I only caught 20 minutes of Woody, but I know now that I should probably try to get to as many of these things whenever the Sony Open is in town!
I have attended The Memorial Tournament many times here in Columbus, Ohio area. Yes I have watched many of the pros hit balls at the range in warming up before they Tee Off. They swing so fast that it is hard to see their swing sequence. I learn more by taping a golfer on TV during a tourament, and then running the tape at very slow motion to see what his swing motions really are.
Slow-mo is a great way to analyze a swing, but it was also good to hear what a pro thinks about his swing and what he thinks about when he's trying to accomplish a specific shot.....
It also creates a lasting impression to see a pro in person crush balls...makes you see the fallacy of the slow and easy swing pretty quick...sure it's smooth, rhythm and tempo in sync, but those guys flat out hit it hard...
Who's got A-team quotes at their fingertips!?!?!? BillyG does!!!
...what's next? Magnum P.I.?!?!
BTW I appreciate the sentiment...there is nothing like watching a pro at work in whatever profession they are in...but I'm on the floor thinkin' about...
