Tiger Woods "slump"

it looks like Tiger Woods is pretty close to putting another tour win together. it's not like he lost this season, though. he had a win in the world match play championships but he's held the 36 hole lead in the past two tournaments.

i was watching him in the EDS Byron Nelson and it looks like if it wasn't for a few costly mistakes, he'd still be in the lead right now. at one point, he hit iron off the tee and that shot almost went in the water. then on the par 5, his drive went in the thick rough so he had to lay up and settle for par.

if he could keep his tee shots in the fairways, he'd win these tournaments by 6 strokes.

well, tiger is definitely a "victim" of his own success. after he won the tiger slam, everyone was sure he would win AT LEAST one major per year. i guess these expectations weren't really realistic. keep in mind, it's not like tiger has gone THAT long without a major and remember that jack nicklaus also went through a majorless "drought" in his prime.

all i know is, things are really taking shape to be exciting this year. i think it's clear tiger isn't at the point he was a couple years back but he's still one of the top golfers. with mickelson, vijay and ernie all playing great, it looks like he'll actually have some competition.

yeah, there have been a lot of top players win this year. mickelson with the masters, vijay with two wins, els with one and today, sergio won another. i don't think anyone should count him out just because he hasn't really been in the limelight the past year or two. before the swing changes, people were saying he could be the one to challenge tiger. hopefully, he can consistently be in the top tier with mickelson, vijay, ernie and tiger.

tiger finished one stroke back for the second straight tournament. if you look at his stats, i think his fairways hit are downright terrible. imagine how much better he could be if he left his driver in his bag. that tiger headcover (nike commercials) of his might be happy, too, since the driver apparently gives him stretch marks, lol.

yes, the nike ignite driver doesn't seem to be helping him that much.

In the EDS Byron Nelson, Tiger hit something like 40% of the fairways. I wouldn't even be happy with that number.

this article compares tigers career to seve ballesteros. i do not know much about seve so i can't give my own opinion on it. at first glance, it seems more like an article looking for attention than one with real substance.

but then again, if your game was like tigers, you wouldn't take 40% of fairways hit...

i dont think we can all comment on tigers performance

let alone call him in a slump

is it me or is he still number 1
i dont think i can comment on him playing badly until i have experienced the pressures of playing golf at that level.

There is no way Tiger is in a slump. He has won 1 tournament this year already. He also doesn't play many tournaments. If he played in more tournaments he would win more for sure. Only the first major has passed, you never know he could win the US Open, the British Open and the PGA. He also is getting married soon so he is probably focusing on that too.

Tiger Slump?

The only "slump" I see Tiger in is a "hitting the fairway off the tee" slump. I've always wanted to play like Tiger.....now I can, off the tee, that is. I hit more fairways in two rounds than I saw Tiger hit in his final rounds of the last two tournament's he played in. Not 300+ yards, but I'll bet Tiger would've settled for 270 in the short grass on a few of the closing holes!

Two things to tell Tiger. Not that he will ever ask me. Swallow your pride and go back to Butch. Drop the Nike equipment and go back to what gave you most of your success - Titlest.

drstroud,

Tiger and Butch? About as likely as Tiger and Fluff! Even the best player in the world needs another set of eyes occasionally...but it won't be Butch. Tiger is Nike Golf's future and with all the millions they have invested, and have at stake, they will create a driver that suits Tiger's needs. Tiger has stated that his current driver concerns are caused by his swing, not the Nike club. Your suggestion that he needs Butch supports the bad swing over Nike equipment arguement.
