Hard way to get an autograph

Was wondering if any one else see Tiger hit that spectator today. Well the kid did get an autographed glove and got to be on TV. Tiger seems to still be having lots of trouble keeping it in the fairway.

I didn't see Tiger hit the kid but I did see that tee shot Tiger hit with an iron. I believe he shanked it and the ball landed on the top of one of the hospitality tents on the right of the fairway. It was a little like Darren Clarke on the par 3 at the PGA Championship. I guess pros shank it here and there, too.

I saw the replay on SportsCenter. Kid looked okay, but what a rough way to meet Tiger.

The clips of Tiger and the boy that I saw on SportCenter makes for good copy, but my first thought was....Where was Mom or Dad? The boy was along the ropes, definitely in the landing area, and the parents obviously weren't paying attention to what was happening on the tee. The boy, although not seriously hurt, very easily could've been. It looked like just a bump on the noggin but a couple of inches either way and this story is completely different. Even from 200 yards away a golf ball can do serious damage to young skulls and facial bones.

I wasn't there so I can't say for certain that they weren't paying attention but...Tiger was on the tee and the odds are pretty good that most everyone was watching him. I've been to several PGA Tour events with my son and I'm always aware of where errant tee shots are going. I've seen several cases where spectators have purposely deflected balls away from their children. Again, where were the parents here? Lack of awareness? Lack of golf knowledge that a tee shot may land in their area? Or did the parents try to protect the boy and it just wasn't shown on the video clip?

I'm just trying to give everyone something to think about when you attend a golf event...especially if you bring the young ones. All's well the ends well and the boy does have a great story for show and tell but, the end result could've been much more tragic.

You know what was funny. I saw it happen, live. The media did not show Tiger going over there or mention it. My friends and I were thinking, well now Tiger has really done it. Hit a young kid and just walked away. Think they were trying to pay him back for all the camera snatching and complaining?

They showed it live on the channel I was watching . . . watch from the left side if you follow TW.

Your local feed might have stuck a commercial in ForgedRBest.

Wow...that kid must have had quite a strong skull. He gave that ball quite a kick out of those trees! Imagine if Tiger had birdied that hole, and it was all because of that lucky (albeit unfortunate) bump on the noggin! Imagine if Tiger wins the tournament, all because of that! That would definitely be amazing.

Anyway, I don't know if that kid will now HATE Tiger for hitting him, or LOVE Tiger for giving him a story to tell for the rest of his life?

i am leaning towards loving him even more. I thought it was amusing when tiger was getting ready to leave he put hsi hand out to shake the boys hand and it looked like the kid thought tiger wanted him to give the glove back and started to put it in tigers hand. Does anyone know if tiger ended up giving the kid anything else after his round?

LWC,
Your right, they did go to a commercial, right afterwards. Nothing was said when they returned, just a quick shot of the boy with a bottle of cold water on his head. We were watching at our local sports bar and grill, it had all the patrons up in arms. Our local channel comes out of New Orleans and there are issues between Tiger and a past Mayor. That is a story for another day.

As a side note, where I work I hear all the time "...if you put that road through or approve this development, the traffic will increase on my street and my child playing in the road will get hit by a car..." At which pont I want to say, but can't - "Don't let your kids play in the road you idiot."

Okay,
Tigers first trip for his foundation down here, this was the first trip in New Orleans, he required security. This is normal. Mayor Marc Morial, at the time provided it, at the time, and Tiger did his thing with the kids. To make a long story short, the city of New Orleans sent Tiger a bill for $1,000,000.00 for the security detail. That is why Tiger does not play in the tournament down here. I side with Tiger on this, so if you think you have something to counter, bring it on. Just keep it within the rules of our forum.

A million dollars for security? It had to be a publicity stunt. I noticed you referred to him as the FORMER mayor. I can see why.
