I just came across this article about Phil being released from this Titleist contract early. It seemed to me that Phil liked his new equipment after stating Tiger was playing inferior equipment. I'm sure it's more about money than anything else, though. It's rumored that Phil likes the ERC Fusion driver and HX Tour balls.
Wow, that is huge. The second biggest active name in the golf endorsement hierachy is now free, let the bidding begin!! Wouldn't it be something ironic if he ended up with "inferior" Nike?!? Not that there's a chance of it happening though....
Wow, this may turn out to be one of the biggest stories of the year if he actually signs with Callaway. They might actually get their first major win with a male sponsored player . But seriously, I think it would definately boost Callaway's retail equipment presence, and may lift the sales of the ERC Fusion driver if he would start to use it . I's guess that he would play some Hogan irons, maybe the FTX's, which are similar to his 731PM irons.
Well, he did make those comments before the Ignite driver and the new Nike One balls came out, didn't he? That would be hilarious, though. I wonder what kind of welcome party Tiger would throw for Phil.
Tiger and Duval could have a "tip session" showing Phil how to "properly utilize the features of the new Nike Ignite 460 cc driver." It would consist of a video featuring all the great drives the two have hit with the driver. It would last exactly 10 seconds, and half of that would consist of Duval smashing the window out of Tiger's SUV.
I'm curious to hear what Phil has to say about making such a drastic change. More than one successful player has suffered mightily after making wholesale equipment changes.
Is the 731PM a forged cavity back? Saw some pictures of the model. Is this what Phil has been playing with while with Titleist? Guess if he goes with Callaway, the FTX or Apex, or a new Phil grind will be played. Looks like all Titleist equipment will be out of his bag. Should be interesting. I like Hogan irons, second to Titleist.
