Ryder Cup Battle!

Hal Sutton's American Ryder Cup team is poised and ready to return the coveted chalice to USA soil. Our American team is confident and determined to prevail in the Four Ball and Foursomes formats that have plagued us in the past! Sunday Singles? Ha! We might not even need them this time! The Ryder Cup will be won (and lost) on Oakland Hills' treacherous and demanding greens, so tell your lads to bring their most trusty flat stick...they're going to need it!

I know that our teams, and especially those attending the event, must show good sportsmanship when confronting the "other side" but it may be a different story here at Golf Rewind.

I, as a Moderator, am duty bound to keep everything civil, light spirited, and in good taste. That being said.....this is for all you European Team supporters.... Let the battle begin!

This American team has the potential to dominate the matches with all the great putters on the team. But it won't happen. For some reason they manage to mess up the first two days have to fight the final round. Let's hope they can get off to a great start on Friday and Saturday and finish the Euros off on Sunday. I do NOT want to have to hear that "Ole! Ole!" song or whatever it is on Sunday again!! But mostly I hope for a civil, exciting and friendly competition in which neither team has any excuses should they lose.

They'll be fighting with "Big Hal" if they even look like they might mess up on Friday or Saturday! I can hear his locker room speech now, "Y'all better get out there and kick some Europeeen tail.....or I'm kickin' yours!"

Inevitable that such a thread should appear, and props to you, l.g., for starting it, cleverly posting at a time when our Euro friends are less likely to be online, allowing us Yank-backers to get a jump. However, just as Team Euro has shown great tenacity on the links, I suspect their supporters here at Golf Rewind will come raging back (in a gentlemanly manner, of course). :letitallo

OK, none of you guys know who I am in real life, so if I'm wrong, I only have to eat virtual crow, not the real thing. I predict a comfortable victory for the lads in red, white, and blue. It won't be a wipe-out, but as the competition progresses, the inexorable result will become more and more apparent. The Euro's have great talent and immense heart, no question. They are indeed a team not to be taken lightly. But I like our top guys better, I like our captain's picks better, I like the site better (for Ryder Cup purposes; I do like UK layouts, tho). And I like our fiery captain, he of the famous (wait for it) "Be the right club... ta-day!" I say that this time we've got all the tangibles and intangibles together. The juggernaut will roll!

I'll be off this board for a few days ; will rejoin the fray when I'm back.

I am having trouble who to cheer for. I like a few players on the US Team and i like a few guys on the European team!!
I am gonna decide before the matches begin so that i do not get into the thing where i choose who is winning.
"Y'all better get out there and kick some Europeeen tail.....or I'm kickin' yours!" hahaha that was a good one, and the thing is it probably is true, he has that football coach kind of thing about him.
I will let you all know who i cheer for!

I know you're a Canadian (our friends to the North) but to quote some famous general.... "If you're not for us...you're agin' us" Best you get off that fence fast before both sides start taking shots at you!

"Agin' us" Isn't that a European beer?

What a great line-up on the American side. I can't wait to see those Europeans grimace in pain.

Guinness makes the wonderful non-alcoholic brew, Kaliber, that I consume these days to preserve my liver. Even comparing it to the pale yellow liquid that Americans call beer is an insult.

I'm not convinced that the American team is going to have such an easy time of it, perhaps because we've been down this road before--expecting an easy win only to experience a hard loss. If everyone on the American side plays up to his potential, the Cup should be in American hands at the end. However, the Europeans have a way of getting the best out of themselves and of not being awed by the American line-up, especially Tiger, whose record in these contests does not exactly inspire confidence.

Way Too Rational!

Come on Valeogut....the "Kaliber" of your post was way too cerebral! We're not cheering with our brains here. We're rooting for our teams straight from the heart! Do I have to put you on the same fence as Junior?

The Euros have been lucky, to beat us in the past....
This year's a different story, we're gonna kick their......rears!

Don't think so. I believe this is the strongest European team for years. On the other hand I feel USA have a weaker than normal side. Gents, I give you...Di Marco, Funk, Riley, Toms, Haas. Weak, I say, WEAK!!!

I tip big Monty to hole the winning putt, peel off his sweater and cavort topless around the green with his over-excited team-mates trying their best to catch him. GO ON EUROPE!!

You counter with Howell, Levet, Casey, McGinley, and Westwood? Now that's a group that strikes fear in our hearts!

We have "Indecent Exposure" laws here in Michigan to discourage Montgomery from such behavior! Besides, Monty hasn't made a putt since the last Ryder Cup, and I suspect his soon to be ex will already have that shirt off his back!

Putting, my friend, putting is the key to Oakland Hills. The US team is chock full of guys who can roll the rock. Woods, Mickelson, Toms, Riley, and Haas would all be considered top quality putters. On the Euro team, who would you go with? Harrington is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Clarke maybe, Monty maybe, depends on which week it is. Plus the home course advantage cannot be forgotten about and a US Open-style setup certainly favors the Americans. US wins easily.

Sic'em stlcard_25! Those Euros are going to find the greens at Oakland Hills will be their downfall. You won't see many putts, over a foot or so, conceded in these matches!

Gee, Stan, that's one of the most disturbing images I've read in a long, long time! I know that men going through divorces often do some crazy things, but cavorting "topless around the green with his over-excited teammates trying their best to catch him"? Right there you've given a very good reason to root vigorously against the European side!

Now, leaguegolf, I didn't know that his thread was for predicting the outcome. Look at your introductory post. Where does it ask for a prediction? I'm not sitting on the fence with Junior; I'm solidly behind the US team as I always have been and always will be. I'm just not entirely sure that a US victory is as inevitable as you and JimSomebody, and stlcard assert.
