The article says Ernie has a chance to reach #1 by the end of the year but I don't see how it will happen with Vijay having such a great past two years. Plus, I don't think Vijay will be idle much more before the season ends.
Vijay is probably scratching at the door ready to get out there now. Seriously though, Vijay isn't in much danger of losing that ranking until next year, and only then if he plays poorly for a stretch, as both Tiger and Ernie will begin to lose points from the good starts they had in 2003 (although Tiger didn't play at the beginning of 2003 so he won't lose any points until the 3 wins at the Buick, Matchplay and Bay Hill come off). Vijay will still have the benefit of 8 wins (or more) this year and 5 last year for a decent part of the year.
I wish we could see some more of the old tiger. Don't get me wrong, I think Vijay and Ernie deserve to be where they are, its just that I wish we could see Tiger the way he used to be, when he had no equal.

That's like me as a 49er fan wishing the dynasty could be back tomorrow. There is always a time when an athlete/team is at the absolute peak, but it never returns.
