This last week (Mark Christopher something or other classic) was the first time I spent any real time watching one of their televised tournaments. These guys are really impressive. I watched a lot of their Saturday round, which had some pretty ugly gusty winds, and a majority of the guys semed to hold their own. That Gutschewski dude looked especially fierce. I'm going to keep my eye on him.
So, who are your favorite Nationwide guys? And others I should look out for?
These Nationwide TOUR guys really are fine players, no doubt. If you bumped into one of them at a fine muni, you'd be thoroughly amazed at their brilliance.
But the fact that they are plying their trade on the PGA TOUR's minor league reveals that most of them are, after all, struggling journeymen professionals. Just goes to show you how tough it is to make it to...and stay...on the PGA TOUR.
Guys like James Driscoll and Hunter Haas had reasonably notable collegiate and amateur careers. They were expected to make some noise on the PGA TOUR; and it looks like each of them will be getting yet another shot at the Big Show, in 2005.
Foreign guys like Paul Gow, Bradley Hughes, Michael Long and Gavin Coles were truly big time players on the Australasian PGA Tour...they were stars down there! But all four have struggled, somewhat, in trying to make a consistent living on the PGA TOUR. All four are former TOUR members, and it, again, looks like perhaps all four have a great shot at earning their 2005 PGA TOUR cards.
I like Paul Gow. I think the only thing keeping him from earning, and keeping his PGA TOUR card is a little confidence. So much of golf is between the ears. Especially at this level. Watch for Gow to make it, and have a bust-out 2005.
Well.......he's on the "big" tour now, but I remember watching CHAD CAMPBELL when he was on the Nationwide, and thinking "WOW, this guy's Impressive!". Sure enough - he came to the Big tour, and is doing great. (except for the Ryder cup!)
There's a ton of talent on the NationWide Tour but there are those that still believe there's young girls and women out there that can beat them all. If you take all the European players that have PGA Tour cards out of the European Tour, the NationWide Tour may be stronger than the European Tour.

Reason: clarification
From the commentary during the Gila River Classic, I hear that 4 Nationawide guys have won on the PGA Tour this year. The best alumni so far. THese guys seriously rock. The last two tournaments I've watched have both had some terribly windy conditions, and these guys still tear it up. I almost like watching this better than the PGA now!
The Golf Channel re-runs a lot of the Nationwide and Euro tourneys during the week and I have watched lots of both. I would have to disagree with someone who posted earlier and said that the Nationwide is better than the Euro less those players who play have their PGA cards. I don't know how many do, but in my opinion you get better all around golf on the Euro side. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching the Nationwide, and given the chance would watch the Nationwide over the Euros.
I've kind of quit watching this year. Last year I was the biggest Zach Johnson fan. Daniel Chopra is also amazing. I'll probably watch more next year when my boy Casey Wittenberg has to play there. :thumbsd
