does anyone think these rankings have to be changed? Vijay has clearly dominated over the past year and has two wins this season and a number of top 10's but Tiger Woods is still #1 by a pretty large margin. not to say that Tiger hasn't done well. he was player of the year last year and the last few years before that. despite that, i definitely think playing in more tournaments shouldn't hurt you in the rankings and that Vijay should be #1. we should be in for another great Sunday finish tomorrow with Sergio, Tiger and Vijay all near the top of the leaderboard and Ernie Els lurking not too far behind.
there will always be controversy with any rankings formula. just look at the bcs. luckily, there are a few undisputed ways to rank golfers such as the money list, vardon scoring average, tour wins, etc. in any case, it's always hard to label one golfer as #1 because golf is such a fickle game and at the pga tour level, there's a good possibility of the 58th ranked golfer beating the 1st ranked golfer on any one round.
vijay may have had the best results in the past year (tournament wins, top 10 finishes) but i think these past two weeks, tiger has shown that if he were on his game, he'd be head and shoulders above the rest.
anytime you win a golf tournament by even a stroke, it's impressive but i swear if tiger had his game where he wanted it to be (or where we expect it to be), he'd win by multiple strokes.
Apparently, if the World Golf Rankings were changed to make playing in less tournaments less of an advantage, Singh would still be #2 by 1.01 points. The changes would make the maximum divisor for tournaments played 50.

that's an interesting stat. i guess tigers last two tournaments really helped out while vijay's collapse last sunday hurt him a lot.
