Yes I think with her competitiveness this will be a tournament that means a whole lot to her. I think this year she had a great year, it was just less publicized so many people dont realize how well she played. A read an article that said if she were a pro on the LPGA tour and played in more events at the pace she was going she would have been top ten on the money list. Thats saying something.
As for the sony i think she will continue to improve and mature and WILL make the cut at the Sony but not by much.
pdog, that stat about her on the money list was in the article I posted at the beginning of the thread. Her earnings for the year if she was not an amateur would have been $257,931 in 7 events, good enough for 43rd on the money list. If she were to play a normal LPGA Tour schedule of around 20 events, she would have been in the top ten on the money list.
The Sony Open is definitely her best bet for success in a PGA Tour event because it can almost be like a "home course" for her. If I recall last year, she didn't putt all that great but she made a few big putts at the end on Friday to get her near the cut line. This year will probably be tougher for her. Last year, I don't think there were many expectations placed on her. She was not only the youngest female to play in a PGA Tour event. I believe she was the youngest person ever. Missing the cut by 1 stroke was seen as a huge success for her.
I don't think it will be the same this year. We all saw what she could do and now, many will expect to see the same. I'm sure Michelle will come into this tournament with much more pressure than she did last year. I do hope she does well and makes the cut.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say she will MAKE the cut this year. Let's face it, she only missed by one stroke in her FIRST PGA TOUR appearance. Now that she has experienced it, maybe her 1st round won't be peppered by so many bogies. Once she settled down, she played pretty steady in round 2. She's got the length to compete, the only BIG question mark is the short game.
True. She isn't the greatest short game player in the world, and a far cry from a great putter. However, I have a feeling you might be right jcgolfpro. She might come through this time.
She should deffinatly just turn pro. If I was me I would do it becuase she will be the hottest stock on the market with all major equipment companies throwing up numbers. Shes the perfect poster child. Shes an 15 year old asian woman that hits the ball like a man. She appeals to soo many groups you just couldn't go wrong signing her.
Allen, if she turned pro now, where would she play? The LPGA has an 18 yr old age limit and although they have made an exception or two for 17 year old high school grads, I sincerely doubt they would give an exemption to a 15 year old.
Besides, I don't think her parents would allow it and she is still a minor. Believe me, win or lose, make a PGA cut or not, her marketability will just continue to rise because she is being very well advised PR-wise! LOL
Uh please, she is still an asian girl I believe. Which means she will still be needing to do some growing up. She needs to wait for a while, and then turn pro. But first she needs to establish herself as a one-of-a-kind ameteur.
Well, maybe not. I'm thinking about the whole thing, and she might just have a chance at better scores. But then again, it will be a fairly tough field. I guess I'm going to go 50-50. She might make the cut, she might not. It all depends on how she is playing. Will she be at the top of her game or not?
As has been said, her making the cut & any future success against the men will come down to her putting, which from what I've seen is inconsistent at best. I say she makes it this time around.
Hey, I could be a politician if I want to when I get older. I have what it takes, but since you want an answer, I am predicting hereforth that she will miss by two strokes.
Is that good for you league? I hope so, cause that probably isn't my final answer. JK.
