It's about "detectives" hired by manufacturers to make sure their players play the equipment they're paid to play.
I also did some work myself and came across something I thought was interesting. There's a thread about new Titleist equipment coming up such as the hybrid and driver but there was also mention of an updated Pro V1. I found the following quote in the article:
Quote:
"Our sponsors pay us a lot of money to play their equipment. Darrell is sort of the Big Brother," said Ted Purdy, after stroking, with a Ping putter, a Titleist Pro B ball that rolled 20 feet into the cup on the 18th green.
Is that a prototype of an upcoming Titleist ball or is it just a typo?
I took a look at the current USGA Conforming Ball List and there are many models of the Pro V but not a Pro B to be found so he could not be playing with it. Even the prototypes have to have names and be submitted to the USGA for approval for the PGA TOUR professionals to be able to use them.
It could certainly be a typo. After all, the letter b is right next to v on the keyboard. Thanks for the conforming ball list. It certainly is interesting. There are a lot of HX Tours on there. I assume one of them is the prototype Phil is playing with? Looks like there is a 372 dimple Pro V1 on the list. Maybe I'm behind the times but I haven't heard of one of those before.
Our Titleist rep was talking of a revamping of their ball line complete with the introduction of up to 5 Pro V models...I am sure the 372 represents some of them.
I'm puttin in my vote for typo as well. Too easy of a mistake! Hmm, more versions of the ProV huh? And what, they've only remade it like what, half a dozen times?

I was told no-dimple line on Pro V1 is a violation of the rule ( Uniform ) but they didn't catch it so allowed it only for pro V1 line. If that's true, they're not going to change the name, just add something else behind like V1x.

I want to be very careful on my visits here. This is the most active, best moderated, and most active forum golf site I have come across and it has a spell checker. I do not want to be asked to leave. Not unless someone can email me a better one. Which as much as i have looked, I don't think exists.
Question, How did I get the name weekend duffer and can I change it?
How come they don't add the user names into the spellchecker?
User names are not in the dictionary since they are mostly slang. "Weekend Duffer" has to do with your post count. It will change when your post count gets to 30, I think, then you will be a "Golf Enthusiast". Thanks for the compliments, you will not be asked to leave unless you severly violate the rules. The rules are simple, no swears not even small ones, and be civilized. That is all Victory asks, he is the owner of the site. What you see in here is mainly the result of very good members, they deserve most of the credit. They also make the job of moderating very easy. Enjoy the site, we're glad your here.
Yes, welcome oscc426.
And league, you know what I'm going to say, but oh well. *Ding, Ding, Ding* You are correct sir! Congratulations and thank you for playing "Golf Ball, your seam is showing". In addition to winning an entire's years supply of seamed pinnacles, you have also won the grand price of one, almost authentic ProV1 without a seam. Don't worry, its fake but you'll never know. Thanks again for playing, and good night!

A fake ProV1? It's a good thing I know a link to the "Equipment Detectives!"
A years supply of Pinnacles? For me, that's exactly.......0.
