So why can't the Tours stick with a **** name? SEnior Tour had a ring to it and it gave some respect to the Tour. Champions Tour is pretty misleading if you asked me. How many of these guys actually are Champions of anything? Sure many have won on the regular Tour but to call them all "Champions" is a bit much.
Same thing with the Nike, uh I mean Nationwide, uh I mean.......what do they call it now ? Yeah I know it's the main sponsor who gets the name but it makes it a pain for the fan. Who won the Nike Tour and does that have any bearing on the Nationwide Tour and , aw heck who cares ?
Anyone that thinks Senior is denegrating name needs get some respect for their elders!
So let's say we change the PGA Tour's name, eh.

They're champions of life. They've made it to 50 and can still hit a driver 250 yards.
I don't think that the renaming of the Nationwide Tour (aka Hogan/Hooters/Nike/etc.) makes it a "pain" at all. C'mon, it's a name. Such pain, all that "remembering." :-P
Aand nobody "won" the Nike Tour. How do you "win" a tour?
I don't mind the Champions tour so much. I didn't like it so much when I first heard about the change (about a month ago, didn't really pay attention). It grew on my, and now I feel like it fits better, especially since you aren't a senior in America until much later than 50.
The Nationwide tour does bother me though. I never liked naming leagues after sponsors (ie Winston/Nextel Cup). I'd rather have it be something like 'The Junior PGA Tour, Sponsored by Nationwide'. Yes, the name is long, and doesn't fit, but I'm not in marketing, so I'm sure someone else could think of a better fitting name. I just find it jarring when I read "the Nationwide tour, now in it's 14th year, second sponsored by nationwide, is enjoying......"
Kind of like how I would rather have the Cotton Bowl, sponsored by FedEX, rather than the FedEX Bowl. It's harder to build tradition when the name of the tour changes every 5 years.
Sponsorships change all the time, names shouldn't.
I'm not really a fan of naming Tours after sponsors as well. It's been the trend recently but could you ever imagine the MLB turning into Tostito's League Baseball or the NFL turning into the Nationwide Football League?
I have no problem with the Sponser-named tours (Nike/Nationwide). It's not like there's something sacred being violated there and if they can generate some extra revenue, then go for it. As for the so-called Champions tour, I didn't like it & still don't. It's mis-leading (they ain't all Champions) and a rather transparent attempt to drum up interest. I think that they're having some real problems PR/fan-interest issues. Many of the more successful seniors are not exactly big draws and it remains to be seen whether that will change. I think it will survive, though, in some form.

Agree with you 100% on champions of life, in no way would I ever compare myself to the Senior Pros. but having made it to 57 in good health and still hitting nice drives I would say yes they are champions of life and my hats off to these guys At least for the Champions Tour they have the name right.
Well I certainly wouldn't demean the skills of the guys on the "Champions" tour and at the risk of taking this OT & gettin' all "filosoficle" on y'all it takes more than longevity & a good drive to be a champion at life. J1MO (geez, I guess I'm feeling a bit argumentative today... no offense meant to anyone).
Agree it does take more than longevity to be one of these guys on the senior tour, (no offense taken) I think you point is quite well taken and not argumentative.
can't remember the name, but they have a sponor for the michigan-ohio state game now for the next 2 years.....how silly can it get,
Is the fla-fla state game gonna be the natures best orange juice game?
okla- texas the western auto blowout?
That deal to sponsor the Michigan-OSU game fell through I believe. I think it was to be called the SBC Michigan Ohio State Classic or something like that.
I understand where you are coming from doc. I does get a little old all of the name changing. But that doesn't mean it messes everything up. Question: what is the Legend's Tour I heard about? Is that the new name for the Champions Tour? I'm soooo confused.
The only Legends Tour I've heard of is on the game from EA Sports, 'Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005', where you need to beat the legends of golf to earn money and endorsments.
I think there was (or is) a separate "Legends" competition, played in Champions Tour events, for those Champions Tour players over a certain age. I know there used to be, as recently as a couple of years ago.
