Why does the Golf Channel only show Champions/Masters coverage, not PGA Tour coverage? Their style of covering events and their announcers are great, I wish they'd cover the PGA Tour! I've seen too much of Hale Irwin and Jay Haas this year.
I don't really understand how the PGA works. So there's the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, and Masters Tour, all within the PGA organization? I'm assuming the PGA Tour is the best. But I doubt I'm the only one who's heard of Jay Haas or Hale Irwin, or Tom Wite, or Tom Watson...
The Golf Channel did a few PGA Tour events this year. I know they did the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, and I thought they did one or two more. The reason they don't show more is probably because they can't compete with the big money networks like CBS, NBC, and ABC who take most of the coverage.
They can't compete with the USA network either. USA has most of the first two rounds of almost every tournament. The Golf Channel covered the events durring majors and the Ryder Cup this year.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I just think it's a bit ironic they're called The Golf Channel but don't cover the PGA Tour. Tiger is probably my favorite to watch.
The PGA Tour, Inc negotiates the TV rights with the various channels for their events. The Majors are ALL independent of the PGA Tour and therefore negotiate their own contracts. This highest bidders get the best events and I guess The Golf Channel doesn't have enough infomercials on to get the revenue required for top tier coverage.
Yeah they cover almost every Nationwide Tour Event unless there is a PGA Tour event on the golf channel. That usually means that everyone is playing in a major (like The British) so there are a lot of openings on the PGA Tour so they get a chance to play in the big leauges for a change.
