Exclamation 59 Phil!

He had the line for and speed for the 58, but didn't look like he stroked it quite right. Can't complain with tapping in for 59 though! What a round.

I don't think it was hit first time shooting a 59 though. I remember being at Tree Tops (which his instructer Rick Smith owns) and they had a car of him shooting a course record of 59 I believe. It may have been Lee Janzen though.

I didn't see it (will it be on again late night?), but it sounds like a great round for Phil. I guess he's feeling comfortable with those new clubs?

59 for 18 holes? That's nothing! The last time I shot 59, it only took me 12 holes to do it!

The announcers said Phil's previous personal best was 61, so I don't think he had a 59 before. Tiger's supposedly shot 59 himself, but not in competitive golf. Well, competing with Mark O'Meara for $50 doesn't count.

He nearly had a 58. Seriously, a tap-in for 59. Yow.

Very funny leaguegolf.

I hope Phil saves some of that for 2005.

I guess it's the "new" Phil we've seen this year, huh? "Old" Phil will have gone for broke and tried for the 58.

Too funny.

They said his personal best was 61. I also read in another forum that tehre are only 5 pros who have shot under 60 in competition. Truth or fiction? I can't tell you that but it does seem low. Either way, congrats to PHil for a great round.

pgatour.com says 3 pros in official PGA Tour events - Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, David Duval. Add Annika to that list (only 59 in LPGA official events).

Shigeki Maruyama shot a 58 in a US Open qualifying round.

Phil's 59 will not go into the record books as this was a silly season event.

"It was certainly unexpected. I mean, I didn't hit it great today and somehow I shot 59," Mickelson said. "So go figure."

"It was incredible," said Singh. "After about the 12th, 15th hole, we were just watching him."

"Today I didn't really feel that sharp off the tee. It was when I got on the surface, when I got on the green, boy, I was just able to see the line and get the ball to go in," said Mickelson. "It's a good feeling."
