Not that it was ever in question but Vijay recently officially won the Player of the Year award. Congratulations to VJ for this accomplishment! Dating back to the second half of last year's season, he's clearly been head and shoulders above the competition.
After his honeymoon, Tiger has shown some signs. Who do you all favor next year?
Yes, congrats to VJ. Even though he isn't my favorite player, I admire his drive and ambition.
As for next year, I think Tiger will get off to a slightly slow start, but will make it to the top. He'll find the drive he has been lacking, and will show his genius once again.
Yes, congrats to Vijay on not only his Player Of The Year award but his second straight TOUR money title. And for the great career that he is crafting.
I think 2005 could be very interesting. I do not expect that Vijay will win another eight or nine tournaments. Furthermore, I think both Tiger and Phil will win more than they did in 2004. And I also suspect we'll see another solid season from Ernie Els.
We are very fortunate to have the honor of watching four of the best players who have ever played...all battling it out at the height of their powers.
I think Vijay has a fair chance of winnig another 6 or 7 in 05, but really his focus now has to be on majors. 3 puts him in a very elite group but I think he has a chance to get to about 6 or 7 over the coming years which would put him up the with the very best.
It's great for Vijay that the hard work he's put into his career has paid off in the top honor on the PGA Tour. Next year, I don't see him tailing off all that much, but I think the fact that Tiger and Phil will win a few more times than they did this year will take away a couple wins from him. He'll still win 5 I think, but I see Tiger, Phil and Ernie each winning between 3-5 next year as well. Should make for an interesting season.
For me, it's become not how many these elite players will will, but rather which events.
I realize the top 10 players in the world are never going to all play in the same events but I'd certainly like to see them play together in more that just the Majors. It's rare these days to see even the top 5 guys in the same event. I give them each credit for every tour event they win but why can't they compete more often against each other?
You're right league, the top guys just never seem to go head to head in normal tour events. I remember this year's Byron Nelson Classic got a lot of hype because it was the first time Vijay, Tiger, Ernie, and Phil were all entered in the same non-major, non-WGC event since the 2002 Memorial Tournament. It makes me wonder: why? I know Ernie plays a pretty hefty international schedule, Vijay plays in a lot of lesser events, Phil has a carefully picked schedule and Tiger just doesn't play a lot of events, but I'd have thought those four would have matched up in a regular event at least once in those two years. Maybe this year we'll get some showdowns involving those four in regular tour events and majors as well.
VJ had a fantastic year , one of the best. But he's 42 and a lot of notables never have won after hitting that wall. VJ has an amazing work ethic that may see him through.
I think Vijays age is almost irrelavent at the moment. Hes fitter and stronger than 99% of the guys on tour right now. Age eventually catches up with everyone but if you look at Jay Haas' performances over the last two years I dont see any reason why Vijay cant remain one the very best right through till 50.

We may get our wish very early this coming year. In an article from the San Diego Union-Tribune, printed last week, it was speculated that Vijay, Tiger, Ernie and Phil will all be in the field for the Buick Inviational at Torrey Pines.
Although I agree that Vijay is in great physical condition for his age and is a very hard worker, I believe that 2004 was his Career Year and he will definitely tail off. Why? Because he is now going to cash in on his success and the opportunities it brings. Look for him to be more involved in "corporate for large appearance fee" events, traveling to places like Fiji to design golf courses, and otherwise reducing his schedule on the PGA tour.
