I generally watch a lot of golf and I must admit that I do see a lot of poor behavior on the course by the professionals, but it is obvious that there are many, many playres who conduct themselves quite admirablely even when they are frustrated with their games and poor shots they may have made. I don't recall very much of the temper tantrums back in the days of Nicklaus, Watson, Player and Palmer. In fact, I still don't believe I have ever seen Tom Watson or Gary Player react poorly after any of their shots, no matter what the outcome. I did, however, see one time that Jack was frustrated at a British Open and took three shots to get out of a pot bunker and did throw his club at his bag. Annika Sorenstam is another example of a player who acts appropriately no matter what the shot or outcome. I'm sure she is as intense as Tiger.

These are the folks that I would hope the younger players would have emulated, but unfortunately Tiger is the predominant figure on the tv screen nowadays and that is what the young folks are seeing and no announcer is saying it isn't proper.

So you're still recommending different (i.e. more severe) punishments for the same crime?

Therefore a $2,000 fine does not deter .com guy from missing a pro-am nearly as effectively as it deters nationwide guy.

Yes, I understand your point.....my question is just what do you recommend as a solution to this situation you seem to perceive as unfair?

Holding on as requested.......I am the once, present, and future Donnakay who posts on several boards. I do have a different moniker on TGC since Donnakay was already in use. Why?

Well, I wasn't originally. But, why not? Take another sport for example. Barry Bonds and Joe Rookie get into a fight during a baseball game. Their punishment is a 5 game suspension each without pay. Barry Bonds is out about $550,000. Joe Rookie, making league minimum is out about $2,500. Equal punishment: 5 games without pay. However, Bonds, being the higher profile and higher paid athlete loses more in the deal. I don't think that is unfair at all. It's the same at my job as well. There are certain offenses listed in our policy and procedure manual that carry automatic suspensions without pay. The big boss would lose 4 times what I would each day he was suspended. He is in a high profile position and makes a high profile salary. Therefore, he has much more to lose. Accordingly, he is expected to conduct himself in a more professional manner. Why not in golf as well. First offense(these are all for each tournament and don't carry over to the next)=warning. Second offense =3% of tournament earnings. Third offense=10% of tournament earnings. Fourth offense= D.Q..

Your system has merit in that particular baseball reference (and any sport where players receive a pre-determined salary) but those sports also have set monetary amounts for certain offenses. Like your boss analogy, suspension from the game (job) means Time = Money. That doesn't work for golf, unless players are DQ'd from a tournament, which is highly unlikely for using profanity. Then you have to consider the Thursday/Friday offenses from players who miss the cut.

The current system may not deter the players with deep pockets, but until the PGA Tour Policy Board comes up with something better, and fair for everyone, we'll have to live with what we have.

I saw more club throwers in the fifties and sixties than I do now. But I play with older guys now and they would hurt themselves throwing clubs. Do the young golfers still throw clubs?.

I'm hardly a young golfer , but I have to admit that I'll occassionally drop the club over my shoulder on my finish after a wayward shot.

I personally have never thrown a club but I've witnessed a few "helicopters."
Overall I'd have to go with the older generation of club throwers based on overall technique and style. These kids today just wing'em as far as they can with no thought to having to eventually go get them. The "experienced" wingers seem to know just where to hurl the club to minimize the fetch it time!

Always make sure that a club is thrown in the direction of one's ball and as far from any other player as possible.

If a conflict exists between the direction of one's ball and the location of another player, hit oneself in the head as hard as possible with the club until the urge to throw it goes away.

In the interest of complete accuracy, I did not say that Donnakay was taken on the Tiger Woods BB but on TGC (The Golf Channel) so perhaps I am the **** who drove you away? Since my posts both here and on other forums tend to be similar in content and tone, does that mean I may be responsible for you leaving here as well?

If so, I am devastated! Did not realize I was so totally offensive.
