I don't see a need for a 5th major to be added, it'll just cause problems with the major totals, etc on down the road. Would Jack's 3 TPCs count as majors or not? Would it be fair to the guys who never could play that event if it were counted? I like the 4 we have and the TPC remains the best "non-major event" on the schedule each year.
Exactly and think about what the HOF would have to do. Players who won a lot of events including The Players but never won a major, do they get in? Or think about DLIII. It would cause a lot of confusion. Like lets say in 15 years DLIII doesn't get into the hall of fame with having only one major championship. Then a few years later The Players is announced the be a major. Davis won it twice so now he has 3 majors and he would of been in for shure before. That might of been kind of hard to understand but I hope you still kind of got my point.
With no confusion whatsoever. What you say is perfectly valid. There is no way to count the Players as a major without really messing everything up. I mean, that would almost be as bad as the LPGA changing the names of their majors every single year!!!
I think there was a solid no behind that. I think in order to have a 5th major it has to travel each year. The Masters is the only one that can get away with that becuase of the course and tradition.
I like the four, but I would like to see them adjust the dates a little. Seems like every year we wait until April to go to Augusta, wait two months then bam, bam, bam, the U.S Open, The Open Championship then the PGA Championship all within a 6 week period.
I think the only change in the majors I would be for is switching the Masters with the PGA. I think everyone would still watch the Masters and the Open and the US Open and the PGA just doesnt have that excitment unless you are a PGA Professional. I think making it the first major gives it the excitment of being the first major.
No one mentioned having the Tour Championship or the WGC series among the top tier events?
And look at how much the PGA Tour pushes the Players, like it were a debuting professional wrestler. 4 Majors is all we'll ever see.
In I think 1973, The PGA was in February. Augusta raised **** over that. Even if the Players does become a major, it'd have to be moved, Augusta wants to stay first in the major rotation. And look at how the tour would have to re-work its schedule in the spring, if what I mentioned was the case. They'd have to make a mess of the Florida Swing. Not gonna happen.

Yes, but Allen89, azaleas only bloom in the spring! And what would Augusta be without the azaleas?
And what the heck is that about the PGA not being exciting unless you're a PGA professional? The PGA suffered for years from poor course selection--nothing else. Now that they're making an effort to improve the courses they play, the PGA is regaining its luster. Keith made a fine point about how close together the final three majors are, explaining, perhaps, that the PGA suffers because the public is "majored out" by the time it rolls around after the excitement of the US and British Opens.
I got that out of the way early this year, now nothing but idiotic ramblings and trying to sneak one by league
You only got your first "good point" of the year out of the way. I look forward to many more from you! There's a better chance of Martha Burke becoming the first female member at Augusta National than YOU "sneakin'" one by me! I may miss others now and then but the radar is always on high alert for "Keithisms!"
