Hey League, I just found this...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact:
Hootie Johnson
Augusta National Golf Club
2809 Magnolia Drive
Augusta, GA 22901

Female Member Admitted to Augusta National

Augusta, GA -- Jan 2, 2005 -- Augusta National announces that Martha Burke has just been offered membership to the ultra private golf club. It should be noted that since she has spent so much on opposing the golf club, she will not be able to afford the initiation but the offer has been made.

n-o spells no

I don't get all this talk about a "fifth" major ... what's wrong with the four we have, that he all of a sudden have to start declaring another tournament is now a major? It would mess up all the historical records for one thing. Besides, if there's a fifth major, then who's to stop other tournaments from wanting to become the *sixth* major? Where does it end? Maybe someday every tournament on the PGA Tour will be a major ... except for the Texas Open of course

JC...JC...JC.... That's just a perfect example of why you can't believe everything you read on the internet. When it comes to golf Martha Burke doesn't know a putt from a hole in the ground!

The players championship has much chance of being a major as the BC Open does

Come on now league, I stole that press release from elsewhere and filled in my own information...lol. Gotcha.

EVERY year there is talk about a fifth major. WHY? Because the PGA TOUR DOES NOT HAVE A MAJOR EVENT OF ITS OWN! The TPC has the strongest regular TOUR event field and that is why it is always brought up. But I agree, the four majors are steeped in tradition and mystique and THAT is why they get much more coverage than a regular TOUR event.

So you're one of those people who start internet rumors! Shame on you JC!

I may be gullible at times, but not when it comes to things golf related. I spotted your trick right off! Anyone who knows anthing about golf knows that even if Hootie drops dead today....Augusta National's membership policies aren't going to change.

Martha might be making progress though. Last year she couldn't get within 1/2 mile of Augusta's gates. Maybe the handful of people that supported her "rally" last year will help her at least make it to the front gate this year!

Sorry....my smilies aren't working. :(

It was really funny where they put her. Only people like me coming in through North Augusta could see any of it. If you had seen it, you wouldn't even know it was a demonstration without the press it had gotten due to the maybe 10 people that were there (probably all organizers).

I can't stand Burke or what she's trying to do to Augusta. I followed all the stories (TheGolfChannel had up-to-the-minute reports) and she's just wrong. This country's laws say you can have a private club and that private club can determine it's own membership. If women weren't allowed to play there I would probably feel differently but they can, and do, play there.

While I support a lot of what her organization does, Burke barked up the wrong Magnolia tree with her battle with Hootie! The women of the world have far greater battles to fight than becoming a member at a private golf club.

I agree. A private club should be able to pick whoever they want. I didn't see Bill Gates or Clinton demonstrate when they were told NO.
