Wie and the 2005 Sony Open

Michelle Wie is playing in the 2005 Sony Open (if you haven't heard or read this by now you really are taking a vacation from golf!) and has publicly stated that her goal isn't just to make the cut but to finish in the Top 20.

Lofty goals indeed, but does she have the game to back it up? After last year's near miss she feels she can make the top 20. What do you think?

Victory will be attending this event, posting pics in the Photo Gallery, and maybe even give us some greenside accounts of Wie's rounds. I really do wish her the best but I added the 4th option in the poll for a reason.

I really doubt she will make the top 20, but who knows? I hope she does well, I think it would be fun to watch.

If I had to bet on one of those 4 options, I'd bet on #2. I assume she's been practicing quite a bit at Waialae and knows the course like the back of her hand. She has her experience from last year so she knows what to expect.

The one thing that makes me apprehensive is that there's a lot more pressure on her this year. Last year, it seemed to be more of a publicity stunt. After all, if Annika or the other females who played PGA Tour events couldn't make the cut, how could she? This year, I think people will view anything less than a made cut a dissappointment for her.

I'll be sure to come back with pictures of her practice round. Last year, she played with Ernie Els. She's also entered into the Pro Junior Golf Challenge which takes place on the Tuesday before the event so if I can bring my camera then, I will.

Prognostication is not my strong suit, but I'd be surprised and impressed if she made the cut. I just wish that she'd get this playing on the men's tour idea out of her system and concentrate on beating other females consistently. Annika needs a successor, and the LPGA needs a big star.

I watched an interview with her yesterday and she said that if everything went her way and she played her best she might be able to get into the top 20. I for one hope she does well, then gets on with her becoming the dominant female in the LPGA.

I really haven't been following her progress lately but after last year's close call & another year under her belt, I think she'll make the cut. Top 20... no way. It should be fun to watch, though.

Hoping she makes the cut, believing she won't. There will be even more pressure on her this year and I think she'll come up a few shots short this time.

Come on, NO ONE thinks she has set an attainable goal? I for one see a missed cut by more than 5 strokes...we'll see.

If you check the current Poll results....you'll see that you're not the only "I for one" that thinks that way!

Nup, I don't think she'll have a chance at top-20!
I think she'll be lucky if she even makes the cut!.....I think she'll miss the cut by 4 shots

She played wonerfully last year.

I put her down not making the cut. Most of you know how I feel about this anyways so, I wont continue. Good luck to her nonetheless.

Personally, I think anyone who says she will not make the cut, or will do perform poorly and miss the cut for example girlgolfa said she will miss it by 4 strokes, are jealous of her talent, michelle wie is the next "tiger" to the game of golf, and I think she will make the cut. Her game is amazing, she has some mad game, especially for being how old she is. Im jealous but not that jealous to say she will do poorly.
