It was pretty funny to see the difference in coverage Mike got from day 1 to day 2. I had to check the PGA website to see if he even played in round 1.
Anyway great showing, I think this is going to be a great year for him, seems to be a bit under rated.. or atleast flying under everyones radar.
23 putts in round 2!!!! GO MIKE!!!!

Word up! All this talk about VJ and Tiger is getting tiresome.
Get used to it....or it's going to be a loooong year for you. Unless there's a major new story that develops VJ vs Tiger will be THE story in 2005. :nodsmiley
I was on vacation when this post started, but I've successfully hit driver off the deck before. Granted, it had 10.5 degrees of loft and was only 275 cc.
I believe Tiger is using the Nike Ignite 460 so that's one huge driver he hit off of the deck. He sure is striking the ball well and could be right up there with Vijay if he were putting better.
That leads me to the next topic. I'm getting kind of tired of hearing all of these complaints about putting with the grains of the greens from some players. I guess I've dealt with bermuda greens my whole golf life so I don't know any "better." I also won't be kicking myself as hard next time I miss a 4 foot putt for birdie or for any other score for that matter.

They wouldn't be pros if they weren't whining about something!

Mike's a fine player, indeed. And everyone knows that and respects his talents, to be sure. But Mike just isn't as prolific/consistent as the top five ranked players; '03 notwithstanding.
But I like to see guys like Mike, Chad Campbell and Stuart Appleby enter the mix.
darn im late to this thread. . . anyways a pool at work is going on, only between myself and two other people but nevertheless. We picked three players, myself taking Tiger, my supervisor taking Ernie Els, and another guy picking Sergio. Merely a coke bet since we cant "gamble" on shift. . . so. Challenge was who would finish higher. Still got the end of today's round, and tomorrow's. Could be interesting, but I am afraid that Vijay is going to run away with it. The winner will hit at or lower than -25 for the week.
They're saying there are going to be Kona winds tomorrow. There are two types of winds in Hawaii. Trade winds and Kona winds. Kona winds pretty much blow in the opposite direction from trade winds and this plays a huge effect on golf. Most of the courses here are designed with trade winds in mind. There's a course I play at that has a 440 yard par 5 that goes against the trade winds and on the very next hole, a 480 yard par 4 that goes with the trade winds.
Kona winds can sometimes make your round feel very long. I notice at a lot of these courses, the short par 4's go against the trade winds while the longer ones usually go with them. When you have Kona winds, those long par 4's can feel like par 5's. Playing a 480 yard hole against the wind is a par 5 for me.
I'm watching Golf Channel and there seems to be a lot of talk about it and while Kona winds play a huge role in my golf game, I have a feeling those players won't have much trouble with the conditions.
Informative post, Paul, thanks...watchin' tv was great yesterday, live golf on one channel, live football on the other...that doesn't happen at any other time of the year that I can think of. I've noticed a lot of the pros keeping the ball down out of the wind...I still think it will come down to the hot putter.
I wonder if they'll even finish the final round today... Looks like they'll have to go to Monday, but with the Sony Championships in Hawaii that's not a real problem.
