Happened to Nicklaus last year. He hit an ace on a par 3. Don't remember which tournament it was.. Maybe the Masters? Nevertheless, it landed in the cup, bounced out and ended up on the front of the green. He missed his birdie putt. The distance it bounced back was similar to that of Charles Howell III. The difference is, the pin location was farther on the green for Nicklaus and there was no water guarding it.

So was I. It had seemed that over the last 20 months, or so, that Charles had been relying on essentially the same swing for most occasions.

He now looks to have added some different shots and seems very comfortable out there. This could very well be a big year for Charles Howell.

That was probably the worst break I've ever seen, But the way he came back and holed the chip and tossed the ball into the water was awesome. It makes you think, what IF he holed the shot.....?

Of he had holed it itw eagle for 16 under and a play off with Tiger.... and Howell would have been coming of two ropunds of 64, 66 in the same day with Tiger having just hit a bad shot on the 18th...

but as it was the bogey made it 69...13 under ..... so we'll never know what could have happened.

I think Charles has made a piece of Golfing history anyway...Im sure they will file that clip away with the one of Craig Stadler 'building a stance' under the tree in 87.

I had the good fortune to follow Howell Sunday morning on his third round. Holes 5 through 9. He has a super swing and can hit the heck out of the ball. Twelve foot eagle putt on 6 that never left the dead center of the cup with perfect, soft speed. On number 7 he hit it well over 310 and had what looked to be an 8 iron in. Now that is large!! Every year I think he will break through and hasn't so far. Knockin on the door!!

Re: Poor Charles Howell III

Can someone post a link to the chip as I didn't see it at all?

Thanks, sounds interesting. Sorry to bring an old thread up, just wanted to see the shot
