I thought those two guys made a great commentary team this week.
They're both hilarious and Nick's Ernie Els impression was spot on. If they were'nt such great players (destined, one would think, for the champions tour) then I think we could have another McCord and Fehrety on our hands.
I was going to mention something about this when Faldo's analysis of Tiger's swing yesterday was mentioned in another thread, but great of you for bringing it up TyeDye. They do make a very good pair along with Tirico, and should they stick around, ABC will have a very good team for years to come. Like you said though, both will be on the Champion's Tour in time so we probably won't get to see them stay with ABC for too long. Faldo's amazing technical knowledge of the swing always adds to the broadcast and the back-and-forth banter between the two makes it interesting.
I don't believe they like each other (Ryder Cup issues) and I'm certain that Faldo despises Tom Lehman. He was talking up Donald until his collapse.
Faldo was very good discussing the "who goes first" issue on the 18th green. Lehman was close and edvidently wanted to chip up before Tiger putted but Tiger also wanted to go first. Faldo called it a good "match play" move on Tiger's part to have it measured. Indeed, Tiger was out. I wonder if Lehman was miffed at that? It seemed like he might have been.... or maybe he was just mad at himself for not even getting up and down from there.
I wasnt aware of any major animosity between them.. although now that you mention it they did throw a few digs at each other and they were two of the stalwarts of their respective Ryder cup teams.... maybe the tension adds to the chemistry.
As for Lehman.... there is still the possiblity that Faldo could be the European Captain in Ireland so if they do, as you say, despise each other that could be very interesting.
Faldo is one of the toughest competitors ever and I've always admired him for that. At some point Azinger and Lehman, among others, became hyper sensitive to some of the gamesmanship that went on. Seve was definitely a part of that too. But a new age has dawned since Brookline and everyone seems above that stuff now. There just doesn't seem to be any pettiness or tit for tat any longer, just competitive golf...... Well, at we're TRYING to make it competitive.
TyeDye, you're from jolly old, tell me why Faldo doesn't even seem to be in the discussion for the captaincy? From what I've read, Faldo is being ostracized as Jacklin was. I think all the time he spends in the U.S. is counted against him. Your thoughts?
Mike Donald and Paul Casey spend a lot of time in the U.S. (college, PGA Tour, residence). Follwing his recent comments, I think that Casey is actually more appreciated in Europe now, even though he plays the vast majority of his golf in the U.S.

That's a fairly safe bet!! Of course, we won't know just how much he's "appreciated" by American fans until he gets the courage to play here...er, um..excuse me, I mean until his back heals and he plays on US soil again!

Might be interesting to hear Faldo's and Azinger's "exchange" on that topic!
Hmmmm "Quoted" myself there instead of "Editing" in my additional comment!

I have no idea why people arent talking about Faldo. I would have thought that, unless Langer wanted anothter term, he would be a certainty. I think in a way the institue of British sport doesnt give him the respect he deserves, hence.... the the luke warm reception of his captaincy application... hence the fact that he isnt Sir Nick Faldo (Ill never figure that one out...
In my opinion he is Britian/Europes best ever player and our leading Ryder cup points earner and he should captain in Ireland...period.
As for Donald and Casey.... I think European fans have always appreciated them, me in particular because theyre from blighty. Its nice to have a couple of our lads to follow week in week out on the PGA tour.

When Casey signed for Nike... several of the American players with Nike contracts were consulted. Tiger didnt get involved but apparently Azinger and John Cook wanted to talk to Casey abouit his comments.
So Azinger has obviously added his two cents to the debate... who knows what other players are saying

Azinger has always been fairly outspoken so that doesn't surprise me.
....... and sorry! That's LUKE Donald, not Mike. I'm sure he'll make me very familiar with his name and his game in short order. Maybe H'ELL be your next major champion winner. It's been too long since Darren Clark/Jean Van de Velde. Harrington, Garcia and Rose should take one soon though.

It has been too long.... no matter what happens in the Ryder Cup we need some Major champions if were gonna dominate like we did for a period in the late 80s/early 90s.
I think Garcia and Donald are our leading young guns on the majors front. I stated in my 'Early Masters Picks' thread before xmas that I thought Luke was a good pick for Augusta and although he didnt finish it off yesterday Im still very happy with that pick.
Howevrer we also have a crop of more experienced guys who all have the game for the majors.. you mentioned the Irish boys, Clarke and Harrington, then theres Miguel Angel Jimenez, Thomas Bjorn and even Monty. Also dont forget Lee Westwod.... who despite a two year fall of Duvallian proportions from 2001-2003 still has nearly 20 European Tour and 1 PGA tour wins at the age of 31.
Typing this has convinced me we will have a major champion this season....fingers crossed
