Singapore Caltex Masters

Monty is leading after a -7 65.

Westwood and Bjorn are both under par.

Monty has put himself in a good position, if he can win in his first start it will be interesting to see how his season develops...remeber he was 80-1 for the order of merit.

My bucks would be on Monty. He's fit, happy, and driven.

The European Tour is weaker now than I can remember it being. What I mean by that is their players rarely win any significant championships outside of Europe. And the battles for 1-2 on the Order Of Merit, lately, have been waged between two South Africans who play the majority of their tournaments in America.

Simply stated, there are no great European players, currently, who play regularly on the European Tour. If Colin gets hot and his confidence goes up, he could easily win the Order Of Merit this year.

M.A. Jiminez, Padraig Harrington, and Lee Westwood come to mind....

droogy33, I agree (more so) but disagree with some of the points you raise. With the introduction of the world ranking points system, many of Europes best players have headed towards America because they can seemingly `climb the ladder` quicker there, as a win over there seems to count for more points than it would over here. However, there is a real clutch of young players here who will take advantage of the absence of our `big guns`. The lack of `majors` winners is a big gap in the European resume that`s for sure...hopefully time and a little more patience will rectify that but I think the success of the likes of Goosen & Els doesn`t point out the weaknesses of the European tour, but just shows how good those two guys really are. But as I say(if I haven`t made it clear), I can see your point nonetheless.

Well Nick Dougherty pulled off his first win...Monty look like he would finish strong but Nick got some great drops which seemed to upset Colins rythem.

This 22 year old Faldo protige seems set to join the ranks of Englands growing batch of young rising stars.

I would love to see Monty grab a major soon. IMO he has played some pretty exciting golf not to have one. Maybe his increased fitness will get him over the top.
