Whangaparaoa, New Zealand (Sports Network) - The Gulf Harbour Country Club, host of this weekend's New Zealand Open, had four greens damaged early Wednesday local time.
Damage to the greens was found Wednesday morning prior to the Pro-Am tournament. Three of the greens had holes dug in them, while the fourth was written on. All damage was repaired in time for the Pro-Am tournament.
"It's very disappointing, but our greens staff have repaired the damage and it won't have any effect on the tournament," said Peter Wall, a spokesman for Gulf Harbour Country Club. "We have a rare opportunity to show off New Zealand and the Whangaparaoa region to more than 200 million homes around the world this week, and this does not reflect well on us as a nation."
Police are investigating the incident and have increased security for the remainder of the tournament.
That's not good! Luckily it was able to be repaired...
Cambo doesn't have a chance, I thick Nick O'hern will be right up there. I also like the chances of a young NZ amatuer Josh Geary, he finshed 5th at the Eisenhower and has been in the Top 5 in all the top amatuer tournies here. Inc 3 wins
He the NZ U-23 over 4 rounds by 13 shots breaking the course record twice in the process. The best being he first started playin at my course before he moved up north
I think it will be a good tournament and I give the name of Gonzalo Fernandez Castaño. He has recently become professional, he is only 23 and, as amateur, had the lower handicap in Europe, lower than sergio garcia had six years ago. He will be up for the next twenty years.
A little shout out, here, to Kiwidave and Girlgolfa.
Since you two are Kiwis, perhaps you might answer this question: Are all European PGA Tour and Australasian Tour events televised in New Zealand? And, if so, what kind of ratings do they get? Are more and more Kiwis viewing televised golf? Do tell.

Ahhhh, I'll try and answer them.
Are all European PGA Tour and Australasian Tour events televised in New Zealand? Yes, I think...... the NZ open is free to air, but other tournaments you have to pay to watch.
What kind of ratings do they get? All I know is the NZ open gets pretty good ratings because it's the only golf programme free to air.
Are more and more Kiwis viewing televised golf? Yes, but they need more golf programmes.
Has the USA got the NZ open on tv now?...or are we the only ones with it live?

Yes! The Golf Channel is airing live, four-round coverage, three hours per day. They're covering this event only because it is co-sanctioned with the European Tour.
