Not only will Tiger be number 1 by the end of the year, he will be number 1 by the US Open. Even though I'd rather see someone else, I have to face the inevitable.

If Tiger keeps his game up and Vijay has a few more poor tourneys, my money is with JC. Why not have Reteif on the list instead of Daly?
I agree...Daly is 49th on the WGR list and I think he is probably pretty close to mathematically out of getting to #1 THIS year (I really don't think he will EVER be #1 on the WGR but definitely NOT THIS year).
Eventually, Crybaby Garcia is going to go on a streak and WILL challenge for the #1 position if he plays more on the US PGA TOUR rather than the European and the same reason for Sergio stands for Goosen as why neither will challenge for the top spot. The main reason Els is not #1 instead of VJ is too many International events carrying lower point values than the US PGA TOUR.
with the way the point system is set up vj should retain the #1 ranking, even if he just stays in the top ten in most of the tourneys he plays in...........
Aftern this tourney Tiger will be #1..... I think Phil has a better chance then Retief to get close to #1. Tiger is only a few tenths of a point behind VJ and Phil is about 2 points away.. Retief and Ernie both need to start playing more PGA ball..
Consistency gets you to the top spot...wins are nice, but as we're seeing with Vijay, having a bunch of finishes outside of the top 20 can cause that ranking to drop moreso than the wins help sometimes. I think we could see some jockeying for the top spot with Tiger and Vijay for the next few months, but I think Tiger will end up on top by season's end. Vijay's points will decline much more than Tiger's will because after March, Tiger will only have three wins yet to drop off the rankings, while Vijay will have 12, maybe 13 still on there to lose points as the point levels shift.

I don't think that's how it works. A win or two by Tiger and a couple of top 10 finishes by VJ (in the same events) would probably put Tiger on top.
I'm pretty sure I've read that the way the points will be coming off the rankings in the next couple months, the system favors Vijay, but how much it favors him is unknown. After that short period I can't see it helping Vijay much with all those wins being slowly devalued over time.
