I would say Monty should still be in this bracket along with...Sergio and Padraig who are the highest ranked players without a major. Plus Lee Westwood...17 Euro wins including the 2000 order of Merit and many other international victories...he finished 4th at last years open...but the win cant be too far away.
I like all of the above but I'd also throw out Harrington. Even though he doesn't have a PGA TOUR victory, he does have the game and will be due a breakthrough eventually.
I think Sergio. He has had chances in some majors and he has titles all around the world and Harrington hasn´t won yet in USA (Target is not official) and don´t forget his performances on Ryder Cup.
I'm mildly surprised that Adam Scott has not been mentioned yet. He's a very explosive player who has already proven that he is capable of winning huge, pressure-packed championships.
Padraig Harrington concerns me. Not only has he yet to win on the PGA TOUR, but his lifetime ratio of victories to seconds and thirds reveals that, at crunch time, Padraig is not very reliable. More especially in a major championship. He would likely crumble in Normanesque fashion at Augusta.
Colin Montgomerie fits into the Harrington mold. Besides, he may very well have seen his best days.
Stewart Cink is just coming into his own and I expect him to win a major championship some day.
But, ultimately, my pick is Sergio Garcia. Skillwise...talentwise...Sergio is above the others. And he is still growing and improving.
I'm gonna have to go with "Lighthorse" Harry Cooper. Sure, he passed away 5 years ago now, but 31 PGA Tour wins and no majors? Gotta give the guy his props.
As for the current crop, Sergio is the most talented without a major, with Adam Scott and Charles Howell III right behind. But as for best, I'd have to go with Monty like waz said, although his window for having a chance to win them is almost over.
Harrington and Sergio deffinetly I'd love to see Monty get one but I think he is just to old and doesn't have the stamina for 4 rounds of major championship golf.

You may be right, though he sure hung in there pretty good at the Ryder Cup. I guess I should say he's the most accomplished current player without a major if not at present the most talented.
