As of now, the completion of the second round at the Nissan Open has been postponed until tomorrow morning. Considering that the next event, the WGC-Matchplay, starts on Wednesday, playing this as a 72 hole event will not be feasible. Since many of the players didn't even start their second round, it will need to go to Monday just to finish the third round. 54 holes is all I can see this thing going. That said, what if all they can get in is the second round? Do they call it an event after 36 holes or do they have to play more for that? Would they come back later in the season to Riviera and finish, as I know they did that once for the Pebble Beach event in 98 I think?
The 2005 PGA TOUR Fan Guide has a mention of the TOUR's policy regarding this subject. I'll have to check on it later this afternoon.
I believe the TOUR would rather cancel an event than declare the results official with only 36 holes completed. And I doubt they would/could come back to Riviera later in the year just to finish one round. Logistically too difficult.
I just read a story on ESPN.com that said it will more than likely be shortened to 36 holes. The winner will get the full prize, but they will NOT get credit for an "official" Tour victory. The win will NOT count towards the money list and it will NOT count toward getting a 2 year exemption on Tour. It also will NOT count toward the opportunity to play in the Mercedes Championships next year since the win isn't official. I'm wondering if this ****** Woods over for beating Vijay in the WGR? If Woods finishes better than 4th by the end of his 2nd round, does he get credit for the place that he finishes in? If the winner doesn't get official credit, then I guess the rest of the field doesn't get official credit for their place? If this is the case, the golfing gods are looking VERY favorably upon Vijay Singh this week.

Maybe, since it may not count officially on the money list, then it won't be an official event, so some of the players may have to play an extra torunament anyway. Goosen's DQ may be a mute point, and he would have to attend an extra event, which is good. He doesn't play here enough in my opinion anyway.
It's sad when things like this happen, just think of mike wier and how he must feel, he had a shot to win the tourney 3 times in a row, what a feat that would have been. I guess god has to show us whos in control at times
I see now that they tried to start off the third round tonight and a few players got going before they had to suspend play again because of the weather. I guess Mother Nature decided to intervene here on the leaders' behalf, as that pretty much guarantees a 36 hole event. I can't see them getting a full round in there tomorrow. La Costa is fairly close to there as well isn't it? I wonder if we'll have delays at the Matchplay as well?
