I can remember them doing that for the Mercedes Championship at La Costa in 1997...Tiger beat Tom Lehman with a great 6 iron shot into the only hole that was dry enough to play on the course at the time...#7, which is now #16 for the upcoming Matchplay I believe...or maybe it was the other way around. Anyway, it looks like there will be a little excitement on the golf course today for we snow-bound folks.
Adam Scott and Chad Campbell finished regulation at 133.
First playoff hole: Par-4 No. 18
First hole -- First shot:
Adam Scott: Drive lands in left rough
Chad Campbell: Drive lands in center fairway
First hole -- Second shot:
Adam Scott: Approach reaches front fringe -- about 30 feet from hole
Chad Campbell: Approach shot goes right, lands in greenside rough
#18 at Riv. has got to be one of the greatest finishing holes in golf. ya just don't see many birdies there on Sunday and par is a winner.
stagday
Absolutely, stagday! That hole is just fantastic. If you pull your tee shot and end up on that hill, with a severe hanging lie; or push/overcut to the right, inside the tree line, birdie is all but out of the equation.
Seeing Riviera once again; and seeing the great consistency of fine holes...the course is so loaded with charm and character...just fortifies my belief that Riviera (especially since the Fazio re-design) is truly one of the top 10 courses in the country. I think it's better than Winged Foot and right up there with Merion, Pinehurst #2, Oakmont and Oakland Hills.
