Here's a link to the WGC bracket. I don't know about y'all, but it looks like TW drew the toughest first round match out of the #1 seeds, despite the fact that there are 2 #1s ranked LOWER than him. It's hard to believe that Nick Price is ranked 60 something in the world. He's just too good for that to be the case. But I guess he hasn't played great the last few years and has sort of slid down the WGR. Tiger will need to play really well to beat him though. Price is a tough player, especially in match play.
Thanks for the link and I'm glad somebody (ESPN.com) put a bracket together instead of just laying it out in text lines.
Anyhow does anyone know how they come up with the matchups? Is it simply based on the world rankings? 1v64, 2v63, etc? I'm trying to figure out this match
(3) Darren Clarke
(14) G. McDowell
as they're both from Northern Ireland... so why would they play in the first round? If it's just b/c that's where the automated rankings spit them out that's one thing and OK, but if the tournament committee matched them up that's BS.
Also look for a wild 2nd round matchup between Mickelson and Paul Casey (if they both win). It all should be fun to watch and I for one love the match play format.
There are some pretty interesting first round matchups there...the aforementioned Wood-Price match, Love III-Riley (will Chris be too tired to go more than one round? ), Leonard-Daly, Scott-Immelman, and Garcia against Cejka who's played well lately. Should be an interesting Wednesday if Mother Nature allows for it.
jtdiver, it is based solely on the World Rankings. Because Ernie Els isn't playing, it's 1 vs. 65, 2 vs. 64, 4 vs 63....etc. I agree that the Phil-Casey second rounder looks nice as would Sergio-Adam Scott, Tiger-Luke Donald or Vijay-John Daly in the third round.
stlcard, I don't see JD beating Leonard in the first round, much less getting to the third round. JD really hasn't been playing that well lately, and Leonard with his win at the Hope obviously has.
I think Ernie just didn't feel like playing. I don't think I read an official reason anywhere. It's not an injury or anything though I'm sure. TTUfirebird, I doubt we'll see all those matchups materialize but they would be interesting. Kinda neat how there's the possiblility of players who are pretty decent friends on tour matching up in the early rounds-Tiger and Charles Howell III, Daly and Singh, and Phil and David Toms.
Keith, I'm pretty sure Els isn't playing b/c he hates the golf course. He skipped it last year and he might have skipped it the year before but I'm not certain. I do remember him complaining about not liking the course or the setup of the tournament.

Ithink he missed it in 2003 because he injured his hand working on a punch bag...the injury put an end to the hot start he had in 03.

In addition to that, I've heard that Ernie doesn't want to travel half way around the World to play in an event where he could possibly play only one day.

For those interested in filling out a bracket, here is a much more printer friendly link directly from WGC...
Yeah, he finished that one up 7&6. Also, Phil's tearing out Cabrera's heart with chip-ins from everywhere and now long holed putts...he looks solid. Tiger is in big trouble, O'Hern is playing Phil-like golf and Tiger can't seem to get any putts to fall.
