Tiger looked great on the back 9. His tee shot on 16 was awesome. I'll definitely be watching the final round. I wonder how Phil will hold up playing with Tiger.
**** local blackout, silly SEC basketball blacked out the 3rd round today on the satellite at work. . . me and the golf guys were pretty angry about that. Hopefully since there is no college basketball on tv tomorrow Ill be able to watch the final round at work.

Phil has never gone mano y mano with Tiger and emerged victorious. Certainly in an event with any significance.
You'll remember that Phil held off Tiger in winning the 2000 TOUR Championship and Buick Invitational, and, again, at the 2001 Buick Invitational. But they were not paired in the final round in those events.
This final round is huge for Phil. I think it will be a far greater psychological and strategic planning test for Phil than Tiger.
If Phil attempts to out-drive Tiger, or blow him away, it could backfire on him.
Phil has been attempting to hit mighty power-cuts with his driver and has, for the most part, been erratic at best.
If Phil puts a "fairway first" plan into play...clubs down, uses the 3-wood a little more and goes with the gentle, controlled cut, I think he can apply the heat on Tiger by hitting more greens and relying on an admittedly hot putter to emerge victorious.
WHO"S NUMBER ONE!!!!!?!?!?!?!??! that's all i got to say! hey hey!!! phil-OUT!! VJ-OUT!!! Ernie-OUT!!!! TW-IN!!!!!!!!!
I am as happy as anyone that TW is back to number one... but think about it... Ernie won in Dubai, Phil and Vijay finished 2nd and 3rd at Doral, respectively. This is such a great time for golf. I just hope that we get similar heavyweight match-ups in a couple of the majors this season... it will be memorable.
What I admire about Tiger is the way he played 16... anyone can say he gave Phil an opening by bogeying the shortest par 4 on the course... but think about it... he went for it on his drive, and he went for it on his second. Just like his Nike commercial that aired today... you can play safe, or play strong... and he says, "just play." He has guts.
Amazing few finishing holes. Started watching around Hole 12, but I was doing other stuff. Started paying attention on 16, and I certainly was not disappointed.
My brother had a hockey game and he missed it! I had to describe the holes, and there were so many details I had to add in. It's a real feat when I actually remember details about a round of golf, particularly one that I wasn't playing, but the emotions were running so high!

Here, here!
All I can add to that is that, imo, Phil did more than finish 2nd...he played four sub-70 rounds of solid championship golf, as did Singh and Toms. But a golf phenom came to play this week. What a final round! Phil gave Tiger one of, if not the challenge of his career...when was the last time you saw that combination of relief, exhaustion and elation on Tiger's face?
Phil played his own game and stayed in control, Tiger just really brought it in that last round. I hope and think he will take a positive from this and it could motivate him even more at Augusta. I hope 2nd doesn't taste bad for long. Who was it said the best golfers have a short memory?
This truly is a great time for golf...
p.s. other guys on my radar:
Zach Johnson = real deal
Ollie - still got game
Retief - oh yeah, I already talked about him
I think phil choked. This was his worst round of the week by 3 strokes. It is amazing that tiger does not fall victim to the pressure of being tiger. He is always supposed to win when he is in the final pairing and he pulls it out most of the time. He is always the man to beat and that is a lot of pressure. No matter who he faces, or under what circumstances, he is supposed to win.
shaderunner, I think Tiger was just as exhausted in his PGA Championship wins against Sergio and Bob May. Those two pushed him to the limit and he was just relieved that it was over with. But today is right up there with those two as Tiger's greatest challenges.
