Forged, I gladly admit this town (Lubbock) is full of good old boy rednecks. And I don't approve of it ONE BIT! Every time one of my friends makes a stupid racist comment, I just correct them and remind them that they aren't following their supposed leader's example (Christ). I can't stand hypocrites, especially Christian hypocrites. I'm a Christian and I try my best to remind some of my bigoted friends that they aren't exactly living their lives the way Christ wants them to.
Since when did this become a racist discussion? Why would you even raise the question? We threadjacked this and were having a rather good argument about females playing on the PGA. Then it turns into Tiger replacing Hootie, and all of a sudden we are debating racist rednecks? For your info I am a redneck, and a cajun. I know more rednecks that aren't racist then I do ones that are racists. Stereotyping is a bad thing, you should learn to judge the individual, not the group.
Forged, I DO judge the individual in most cases. It's just I have been exposed to many people who are either racist or make comments that are completely out of line and they think that the comment is perfectly acceptable. An example would be my roommate here at Tech. And he's a smart guy. We're both in the Honors College, he's well-educated, but he chooses to say things that are completely inappropriate and insensitive.
In other words, unlike my great aunt and uncle, he's grown up knowing what's right and wrong, and yet he STILL chooses to have those opinions.
Cole, anyone who is against basic women's rights like Vijay is cannot be considered a nice guy...unless you are his son who is probably spoiled rotten just like every rich kid.
Hahaha, basic womens rights, being against him? Im not Vijay fan, but come on. The women have their tour, the men have theirs. Stick with it. Not our fault that the men's tour gets more sponsers, and hence higher purses. The LPGA is working, year after year to make the money higher for their professionals. Let's not put the blame off onto the men's tour when the actual blame needs to be put on the LPGA for not having an as marketable product.

I don't think I blamed the PGA Tour. I think I just said that women should be allowed to play if they're good enough. I completely agree that it's the LPGA's fault that they don't have the same kind of money.
Okay, league. Let me revise that. He may not be a racist, but I really do doubt that he's very comfortable with blacks. And that's not necessarily his fault. He was probably raised that way, just like my great aunt and uncle (both are 90+ years old). They say the n-word all the time, but they don't mean it as a bad thing. It's just how they were raised. They typically don't mean any malice by it.
If you do some research on Hootie you'll see that he's responsible for promoting many minority (including blacks and women) causes. Don't equate racism with Augusta National's membership policies. We can only speculate about the "comfort level" at Augusta and since we're not members we'll never know. In my opinion, promoting unfounded and unproven "thoughts" like these is, in itself, a form of racism.

Very true Forged. That's how these things get out of hand. It becomes the Civil War all over again. I know for a fact that we have no shortage of "racially insensitive" folks up here in Michigan, too. This has been a great Thread-Jack, though.
And as for being politically correct, forget it. There is no PC, not any more. People (ie - the religious right following) are far to sensitive in our present US society. If you can not accept someones views, why do you think they will accept yours? You can try all you wish to try to change someone, but the sooner you realize no matter what you say, you're going to fail. And as such, you will be better off. Sorry to be a downer, but the truth usually hurts in this case.
Oh Forged. I guess I just assumed that if it was off-topic it should be moved. Y'all are kind of lenient on this board about off-topicness I guess. That's pretty cool.
RaiderPower.com (Texas Tech sports board) has moderators who move threads if they talk about anything other than the particular topic for each board. They even lock and delete threads that make fun of our biggest rival (Texas A&M). It's kind of not fun at that point.

That's because we have some pretty cool members that know how to engage in a civil argument.
Ah, so you're an LSU guy eh? Just to let you know, I was rooting 100% for y'all against OU last year. The only school I dislike more than the Aggies would be OU. I don't really dislike OU the school, just Bob Stoops. Speaking of LSU, you probably won't like what I tell you but I went to high school with Drew Tate, the guy who beat y'all in the Capital One Bowl.
I don't even know how he got into college. He tried to get someone to take the SAT for him, but they caught him. I wasn't surprised they caught the cheating, but I was surprised that they let him retake the test. I'm even more surprised a top-notch program was even willing to take him after that mess.
