Tough break? He missed a short putt and he can't blame a "tough break" on that. G. Oglivey finding a sand filled divot in the middle of the 18th fairway when he needs a birdie to join the play-off.......now that's a tough break! :nodsmiley

VJ played great today and put himself in a position to win. He looked almost human by missing that short one.

C'mon league...Give him a break, it is afterall tough to putt with your hands around your neck...Although, I'm not too confident that I'd had made that putt either, but then again, I don't make a living making 2 1/2 footers...He played well today, but no excuse for that putt, imo...

...and Vijay didn't make any excuses, either. When asked after the round if he felt he had an advantage because he had a better lie than Harrington on the third shots, he said "I expected him to get up and down...I just should have made that putt." End of story. Padraig pointed out that there was a spike mark directly on Vijay's line, Vijay said he just hit it too hard. He's a class act in my book. I'm sure Padraig would rather have won another way, but I'm just as sure he'll take it anyway. :nodsmiley

I was giving VJ a break. :nodsmiley "Almost human" is a compliment the way he's played the last 2 years! As for missing the shorty....There's not a pro out there that hasn't missed a short putt that cost him a win.

It certainly was too bad Vijay lost in the playoff in that manner. You have to tip your hat to Padraig though for getting up and down twice in the playoff. It would have been interesting if the playoff had continued but at least I got to dedicate my attention solely to the selection show (college basketball if you have no idea what I'm talking about).

I think your off-base with that choking reference to VJ, Bama. He's certainly proved many times his ability to hold up under pressure. Putting has always been his weakness. Nobody makes them all.

remember when Goosen missed that short putt to win the US OPEN? it was like, geez, how could you do that? such a short putt for all da marbles. of course he still prevailed, but there are no gimmee's.

just like a guy I play with. he's terrible on short putts, so he gives everybody those 3-4 footers expecting the same in return.

stagday

Well pleased for Padraig - could be a breakthrough win for him - he's got the game to win Majors, now up to #6 in the OWGR

I agree league, bad break is something that isnt YOUR OWN fault. Olgilvy definetly had a bad break because it wasnt his fault he ended up in a divot... Vijay on the other hand was completely incharge of his putt and the outcome.

But this also makes me think arent caddies supposed to replace the divots in the fairway, the area where ogilvy was playing from was where most of the tour players were in... shouldnt someone of replaved that??? And Vijay didnt replace his divots either, it almost cost him on the 2nd playoff hole when his ball almost rolled back into one of his own divots....where are the courtesy rules on the PGA tour...seems everyone knows them at my golf club

No breaks are givin anyways,of course everyone misses the occasional short putt, but VIJAY.... I nearly died when he missed that, I could of done that lol

From what I understand, the turf in Florida has a sandy base and most divots displace the grass in such a way that you can't replace a divot like most of us do. The alternative is to fill the divot hole with sand, which I'm sure all the caddies do.

In most all places, it makes more sense to fill the divot with a sand/seed mixture than to replace it...not all the time, although a fair percentage of the time it will not regrow and you'll have a dead spot which will take far longer to repair itself than if you had just filled it with sand and seed to begin with. This is especially true on tees...replacing the divot there does more harm than good.
