Where's Martha?

After last year's fiasco, it looks like Martha Burke and her five followers are laying low this year. Or even better, she's moved on to matters that really concern women. Part of me wishes she would've stuck her nose back where it didn't belong just so we could enjoy commercial free Masters coverage again this year. I find it humorous that after all the posturing and popping off she did about Augusta last year, I haven't heard a peep out of her this year.

The Power of Hootie! When he can shut a woman like that up he has my respect! I sure could use his help with my mother-in-law!

Martha decided that there were more important issues confronting women than playing golf with a bunch of antiquated corporate farts in Augusta, Georgia. Now she's concentrating on the corporations themselves.

Her publicity campaign against these corporations is a killer! Large corporations are caving in to her demands left and right! Did she give up on picketing? Tsk...Tsk...tsk, and after it worked so well for her last year!

Ya know, guys, all credit to Hootie for not caving to this idiot woman. However, please be aware that she was also innudated with letters, emails, and telegrams from various chapters of NOW. Those of us who have worked all our lives for equality in the workplace and legal system for the fairer sex were disgusted with her choice of issues!

With the still serious issues being faced by women worldwide, her assault on the Masters drove many of us to discontinue our membership in her organization and put our time and money into groups who deal with real problems where we can make a difference. Making women's rights the butt of jokes did more to set us back than the Ayatollas!

Well said, as usual, Donnakay. From day one I never understood why this woman would challenge a private club's right to hold a golf tournament, or go after tournament sponsors because the club did not have a female member. Did any other woman in the world really care if Hootie and the boys made their own rules in their own private club?

My mother and my wife have battled for women's rights their entire adult lives and neither of them would give Martha Burke the time of day. My mother said it best when she said, "I can fight a mule-headed man but I can't defend a brainless woman."

Hootie handled Martha without breaking a sweat but I think he'd have his hands full with the likes of you missy!

While we're quoting our genius moms, mine said "Why would I want to be equal when all these years I've been superior?"

When I got my first position that had previously always been a man's sinecure, she gave me a framed needlepoint reading:

Whatever women do, they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good.
Fortunately, this is not difficult.

Many of my male colleagues found this most unfunny.

Sorry, LG! Couldn't resist the opportunity to let you know that although I heartily dislike Ms Burke and her position on AN, I'm still fighting the good fight!
