Vijay playing some great golf. However, I must say that I am glad I went to the 2003 SHO instead of this year because the field is very weak from what I've seen. When I went in 2003, I was able to follow Phil, Ernie, big John Daly, and Freddie Couples, along with Vijay and David Toms. But it appears that this year Vijay and DT are the only "big guns" so to speak. I guess I can say I got lucky with the year I picked to go to it. Besides that, I'm in Lubbock so it's impossible for me to go anyway...otherwise, I probably would even with the field being down a bit.
Go figure, last night I went to edit my fantasy golf team and clicked on the boxes for John Daly and Jose Maria Olazabal, then clicked submit when the screen asking for my password came up. In that much time I changed my mind and decided to leave my picks alone....both guys are at -5 partway through their rounds today. The other guys I have are E, -3 and -1....
Yes we know he can run away with it, in a less than attractive field playing.
Yes, we've seen Vijay collect quite a few wins against "weaker fields" in the past few years...but he's still gotta go out there and beat 144 (or so) very talented players to do so. :nodsmiley I think if anything Vijay's dominance over the Tour's lower echelon of events can be attributed not to the "weak fields," but to weaker courses. Vijay's style of play lately has been to grip it and rip it with a driver on nearly every hole, and I think long courses where he can't get into as much trouble off the tee suit him very well. Also, if he has a weakness it's putting so undulating, super quick surfaces (a la Augusta) don't play to his favor much either.
It just so happens that the "stronger field events" typically are at the toughest courses on Tour, where a slightly off kilter driver can get you into more trouble and fast, sloped greens penalize anyone not putting so well (think Sawgrass). I think Vijay is more of a player who thrives when the winning score is probably going to be 15 under or less, rather than a guy who will go out and par a course to death as needed in many of the majors (Augusta exempted). But, you can't really argue with 10 wins in the past year and few months of this one....

I agree. It's not the greatest field. John Daly in contention will make it interesting, though. I actually have more interest this week in the Johnnie Walker Classic. Pretty good field over there with 5 of the top 12 in the world playing.
Didn't he win this a few years ago?... 2? I'd think he'd have an exemption. Any reason for him not playing this year?

I thought the same thing. He did win a couple of years ago, and this is his adopted home town, he's originally from Seattle. I just wonder if he is nursing an injury or something. I thought I heard he might have re-aggravated his back during the Masters, hope he get's out there again soon.
