Golf in Ireland

A friend just got back from Ireland on a golf trip. It rained when she played(big surprise) but she said it was fantastic. Has anyone here gone there and how did you like it. To me, it would be my dream golf trip even with the rainy weather.

My buddy and I also went in late August. We brought the wives who loved all the historical side trips. We teed it up 5 times in 9 days. Ballybunion was a near religious experience. I hate that we just played it once. The first time you feel like your in a postcard...it's such a beautiful setting. We also played 36 at Killarney (walked 36 that day) and played Galway Golf Club for our final round. Galway was a surprise...sitting smack on Galway Bay along the west coast.

As great as the golf was...it was the Irish people who made the trip memorable. The were charmers. The food was also good. I had always heard that a 7 course Irish meal consisted of a six pack of Guinness and a potato ... not so, today. We ate well. Oh...and that Guinness thingy was kinda nice after a round. Go to Ireland!

For golf, I'd recommend flying into Shannon and playing your golf along the SW and West coast.

It is one of my dreams to play in Ireland. I don't know why but I never hear anything bad about the golfing or anything over there. If she said it was still fantastic while it was raining, imagine what it would be like on a nice day.

The European Club is right up there in my best links courses with Muirfield, Birkdale, St Georges.

It has one 110 yard long green, designed, says Pat Ruddy, to preserve the concept of the great 3-putt.

I always recommend people visiting Britain with their clubs to make sure they spend some time in Ireland. There are some fantastic expensive clubs, but the true gold is found on the smaller less known courses, where you can play great golf for small prices.

The people and the guinness are better in Ireland.
