What happens to my handicap?

I have not played in competition and submitted a card in something approaching half a dozen years. I still have a handicap showing on our club board but I believe that my lack of activity makes my handicap 'starred' i.e. I could not use it. I am not in scotland incidentally - the rules there are a fraction different or used to be. Am I right then that I need to submit 3 cards to get a handicap again? I am handicapped at 9 at present - if I put in 3 cards I would be rather likely to get a 15+ handicap. Can my handicap reasonably be reinstated at 9 even though I haven't a prayer on earth of playing to it? Or does my handicap get reassesd based on my cards?

Thanks

Adam

Re: What happens to my handicap?

I would think your handicap would be adjusted to reflect your latest 3 cards.

That is what I hope for - but anything official I find seems to suggest that there is no 'set in stone' rule that your handicap HAS to be modified (i.e. the handicap committee may do basically anything the fancy!)

Your handicap (index) will be modified once you start passing cards, calculation will be based in your present cards plus the new ones (last 10), they will average and asign index. Newest cards will replace old one for asigning new index. Once your score starts getting beter these cards will be replacing the oldest ones and so on.............

Re: What happens to my handicap?

Are you sure it works like that? I know for fact that I have my last 10 cards showing a handicap well above the number I am assigned - the reason for this was given that I could only be put up 0.1 for each outing above handicap.

Ok Buns, since yesterday I celebrated in Spanish here it goes:
U.S.G.A. HANDICAP SYSTEM

0.96 = Factor de ajuste.
