worst service ever

Got up a 05.45 yesterday morning in the unfettered luxury of Doonbeg to go and play golf at lahinch on the way home to London. The weather was terrible , driving rain and 4 club wind but we did not want to let them down so rather than going back to bed ( best beds I have ever slept in like being wrapped in cotton wool) off we went.

Got to lahinch at 07.30 checked in and asked about the caddies we had booked , " oh yes we have a record of that you need to ask in the pro shop". In pro shop asked same to be told we do not have any . We pointed out that not only had we booked well in advance but we had rung twice to confirm and was told " so what" .....could not believe it .

Then asked about getting something for breakfast after all we had got up very early " bar and restaurant are shut" . well can we get some water and mars bars " no they are in the bar" . We do have a half way hut but we probably will not bother to open it today ! Now the course was quite busy with ourselves and a lot of American visitors and it was without doubt the worst conditions I have ever played in do you think they opened the halfway hut......... did they ****.

Everyone one we met on the staff was miserable and unpleasant , it was the worst golfing experiance in ireland I have ever had and I love playing in Ireland. Do yourself a favour give it a miss and play Doonbeg , Ballyliffin , Adare Manor , Portrush , Old head , Tralee , Killarney or Waterville all of which I played this year and all of which were fantastic.

Re: worst service ever

I'm assuming you played Ballybunion (old course). I fell in love with that old course and hated the new mickey mouse course there. It was pure links golf and a lot of fun.

I am also stunned to hear your bad experience in Ireland. That is rare.

Re: worst service ever

I have only played a couple of courses in Eire but have always been made to feel extremely welcome. Havent heard any bad reviews of Lahinch so this is a surprise.

Re: worst service ever

Sometimes you just do get bad service.

We recently booked for 16 players at St Annes old links course in Lancashire.
St Anne's Old Links Golf Club - Lancashire, England
We also booked evening meal for after the game.

The course was fantastic by the way but we pre booked somed buggies for 2 of our group
but none were avaliable even though we too called a week before to make sure (and pre paid)

And when we got back in the clubhouse for our dinner - we were told there had been an oversight and we would not be getting our meal. (lol also prepaid)

They then had the cheek to make us a large plate of sandwitches and chips (fries)
to share between 16 and charged us £35 for them
