So Jesse Ortiz and Dave Pelz have been hawking these new wedges on The Golf Channe claiming that the face & grooves that will last longer than a normal sand blasted face. At $150 per I would hope they offer something more :)
Anyone try or own these and what are your opinions?
Well as a person who goes through wedges every 18 months if these were as good as my current wedges and lasted twice as long I would consider $150.00 to be a dang good deal. On top of that Jessie and Pelz are not going to put out ****.
If the average Joe only plays once a week on the weekend, or every couple weeks, I could see that they would be overkill.
I think if you play a couple times a week, use a wedge every hole like nearly every player I know, they're not that much more than your popular wedges being used today.
Of course, I haven't priced anything except my Cleveland's(CG12 zip grooves) so I'm not really sure. Personally, I would like to hit them like any club before I buy them. Can you get these anywhere besides an infomercial/website?
I think one wedge for 150 bucks is too pricey. The last wedge I bought cost 89 dollars (new TM RAC 56 wedge). And I got a used one Nike forged for 30 bucks in great condition.
If your wedges are worn out, try the regrooving tool from Golfsmith for 27 bucks you will sharpen the grooves and get the bite back and get to keep your favorited wedges.

The only problem with the regroving tool is it can void the clubs for tournament play. Also, for carbon steel wedges it can weaken the case hardening causing the wedges to wear even faster. When I wear out my CG-10, which will be this year, I am going to check these out.
You want to pay $150 for a wedge.. you're a good man..
Hey, I have some really good snake oil to sell you too. This stuff will make you a better golfer.. I guarantee it. I've helped millions of golfers break par, every time out. There ain't a day that goes by where I get people writing me letters, calling me up to thank me for selling them up the river. I am so happy for these people.. they're calling their neighbors to tell them all about it. . . . . . . . . .
You're being swindled by snake oil salesman, my friends.. and you're too willing to part with your hard earned $$'s. Why not just send your money my way. I have a couple of old wedges that will do exactly what their $150 wedges will do... for a heck of a lot cheaper.
Oh, while you're at it... why don't you work up a few paychecks and spend dearly for a set of Callaway Fusion irons too... $1300 for 8 irons!!
Hmmmm, people spend 400+ for drivers all the time, but place a 150 mark on the second most important club in your bag (the putter being first, not the driver) and people flinch? I am also basing my opinion on my expericence with both Jessie Ortiez and Dave Pelz, which up to this point has been good. If I was going to buy new Hybrids right now, they would be the Bobby Jones Hybrid. But of course you speaking out of your behind because you have never even tried any of their clubs, I have.
A new Vokey will run you 120.00 what if you could spend another 30 and have a clube that was just as good and lasted twice as long. I would think it would be a no brainer. Of course, I have not tried these yet, but I will. They may not suit me but I doubt they are total trash, and to say Dave Pelz and friends are conning people is really pretty rude without knowing anything about what your saying.
i don't think anybody is saying Peltz is conning people. Most people ..i think have at least 3 wedges. If the average wedge cost 100 a pop..thats $300 or $450 for a peltz wedge set. I'll take my extra $150 and play a few more rounds of golf. I think you need to play an awful lot to justify the cost. Some interesting info on youtube..
rc-combat.. my judgement here is based on the the extravagant price gouging these companies are charging for an at best good wedge. You can spend as much money as you want.. that's your choice. These clubs are not made of gold or diamonds. These wedges are not even forged.. they are simply another wedge in a world over wrought with hundreds of wedges of Cheap Cast Iron.
Sure, go ahead and spend $400+ for a driver that will end up in the junk pile after a couple of years or so... then go spend another $400+ on another driver after that. Again, it's your money. You ever notice the major reduction in price of that $400 driver a year or two later that's still brand new, protected in bubble wrap? $199? $149? $99? Uhh huh.. that's right.
You want to know what you're really paying for... where that extra $50+ is going to? You are paying top dollar for Jesse Ortiz's infomercials, with some of that going to Dave Pelz's wallet too.
Lastly, I want you to tell me how these wedges are seriously any better than any wedge that's been built any time in the last twenty or so years. I bet you can't.

Enjoy your new way over-priced wedge!
The point is, NO ONE HAS USED THEM! So WHO knows? You haven't used them have you? The threadstarter hasn't, that's why he's asking.
I don't think we can say one way or the other until someone buys them, uses them a fair amount, and compares the grooves to both brand new B.Jones wedges and another brand used the same amount of time.
Seriously, talk is talk is talk is talk.
I'm sure you've never overpaid for anything in your life, have you?
BTW, I've used a few brands of wedges over the years, and the idea that a wedge is a wedge is a wedge is BS. There are obvious differences in quality, so who's to say that new technology isn't going to surpass the old?
Drivers with interchangeable weights, now shafts. . .technology is what it is--new. Why harp on a guy who's actually trying to save $$ in the long run. No matter how long you keep them, eventually you will replace them. If I can keep from replacing them--wedges--for a lot longer--I'm interested.
Like I said... it's your money... support your infomercial.
The Bobby Jones Hybrid started with an Infomercial from Jessie, and I have hit them and can honestly say it is one of the best I have ever hit. Worth dropping my Cobras no, but If I was going to buy new hyrbids right now it would be them.
