I don't know about the condition of the courses in AZ but I have played summer golf in Vegas a few times with teperatures in the 105 to 110 range. The courses were beautiful.

Start out hydrated and stay hydrated. I start drinking water when I get up in the morning. You don't want to go into the round already in the hole hydration wise. Wear a light colored shirt and also wear a hat. By the end of my last round last summer the uprights for the roof of the cart were too hot to lean against. Everything was radiating heat. Walk past a large rock on the course and you can feel it radiating heat. It was awesome!!!

Enjoy,
Jeff

To answer your question about the course quality, Desert golf is played on heat/drought resistant grass varieties. You will see far more boulders than water features and native grasses than trees. It looks and feels very different from mountain golf or tropical golf or green golf, but it is a pleasure even in the summer. I say book early, reapply sunscreen frequently and ENJOY!

I lived in Phx for twenty years and loved playing in the summer. Just use lots of sunscreen, wear a hat, and take a cart if it's particularly bad. The rates are unbelievable in the summer - you can find coupons in the paper that bring it down to nothing.

I also used to do metal roofing in Phx, so my system was used to extreme heat.

The Arizona sun is no more UV intense than the Colorado sun in summer, and a good, high SPF sunscreen is all that is really necessary. I use 30 or 45 SPF, and with them I have trouble getting any sort of a tan at all, much less a sunburn. I couldn't stand to play in midsummer if I couldn't wear shorts and a polo.

The Denver area tops out at over 100 degrees too in the summer, and that added to a 5000+ foot elevation makes for a very intense sun.

Arizona is HOT in the summer, but you get used to it! For the best information about hot weather tips and golf courses check out this Scottsdale Arizona website. Play early in the morning and get yourself a neckband that holds an ice pack! You'll be all set.
